1964 Aston Martin DB5 in Concours Condition

Completed to award winning standards by recognised marque specialists in 2020, we are delighted to offer this immaculately restored and matching numbers Aston Martin DB5.
Factory and British Motor Museum records show DB5/1650/R was dispatched from Newport Pagnell Works via Brooklands of Bond Street on 24th June 1964. Retaining its original registration mark, ‘CLN 206B’ was registered on 1st July 1964 before delivery to its first owner, a Dr Mark Gittos.
Built to Home Market specification and originally finished in Platinum Grey with black Connolly leather interior, optional extras at the time of order included chrome roadwheels, Britax seatbelts, heated rear windscreen and Motorola radio with rear mounted electrically operated aerial.
With just three owners from new, the first, a plastic surgeon from Chelmsford clearly enjoyed the DB5 as he remained custodian for over 36 years before ‘1650’ was purchased by its second keeper, a Mr Anthony White of London in September 2000. During Mr Whites ownership over 17 years, DB5/1650/R formed part of a significant UK based private collection and was invited on three separate occasions to appear at the Goodwood Revival where it acted as the Safety/Course Car.
Complete with original matching numbers for chassis, engine and gearbox and retaining registration number ‘CLN 206B’, the third and current owner purchased ‘DB5/1650/R’ in January 2018. Having previously owned and restored several other significant Aston Martins including both a late DB4 and a further DB5, the new keeper decided to embark upon a total body-off restoration and return every element to new condition. The project was entrusted to the highly regarded and award winning skills of Adrian George and his team at Spray-Tec Restorations in 2018.
With the aluminium body panels removed to access the Superleggera tubular framework, repairs and fabrication where required were completed by the artisan skills of Alan Pointer and the respected Bodylines in Olney.
While body and chassis preparations were underway, the original engine (No. 400/1505) was removed, fully dismantled and rebuilt to 4.2 Vantage specification by renowned marque experts R.S.Williams. A photographic detail showing each stage of the engine build is on file and includes a recording of the final dyno. test together with the resulting increase in both power and torque.
In addition, the original 5-speed ZF gearbox (No. S5/325/593) was completely dismantled and refurbished before being reinstated with original gear ratios to factory specification.
With over 60 hours taken to hand finish the immaculate Silver Birch paintwork, the owner decided to match the Mulberry leather and Wilton carpet interior to the specification of both his DB4 Series V and a previous DB5 which achieved a record price when sold at auction by Bonhams in 2017.
With the final options including fitment of electronic power steering and new chrome roadwheels with three ear spinners, the owner commissioned a leather bound book which accompanies and documents the entire history and total restoration process involved.
Following completion in late 2020, the current owner has enjoyed DB5/1650/R sparingly over the last two-and-a-half years. During this time, he has exhibited the DB5 at various outings where ‘1650’ has received first class honours by judges on each occasion shown.
Retaining many original and important components, this three owner, matching numbers and concours example demands inspection to be fully appreciated – please enquire.
