From the Giulietta Spider of the 1950s through to the final Series 4 in 1994, these cars defined elegance and driver engagement. The original ‘Duetto’ Spider 1600, launched in 1966, remains the purest and most desirable of the series – immortalised by Dustin Hoffman’s The Graduate and now highly prized among collectors. According to Alfa Romeo’s Certificato di Origine, this lovely left-hand drive Spider 1600 (105.03) – Chassis AR665800 / Engine AR00526/A*S647A – was built in Italy on 29 August 1967 and delivered new to Newark, New Jersey,USA in March 1968. Finished in its original combination of Rosso Red with Skai Nero (Black) interior, it is believed to retain its original matching-numbers engine. Imported to the UK in 1989 and sold by Alfa specialist Lombarda of Notting Hill, London in 1997 following a full restoration, the speedometer was reset to zero at completion. We sold the car to its current owner in December 2010, showing 8,000 miles since restoration. It was later transported to his villa in Marbella, Spain, where it has seen minimal use – the odometer now reading only 8,315 miles. In 2024, the car was fully recommissioned by English classic specialist Michael Owen Sissons in Estepona, with works including: New exhaust system and tyres Full service with fluids, filters, and plugs Complete brake overhaul with new seals, pads, and hoses Overhauled Weber carburettors New water pump, fuel pump, cooling hoses, and drive belts Total cost: €3,105.89 (£2,700) The car returned to London last year and passed its MOT with no advisories. It runs and drives beautifully, ready for immediate enjoyment. Registered as a Historic Vehicle, it is Road Tax Free, MOT exempt, and ULEZ compliant, and eligible for low-cost classic insurance. Upon sale, the car will receive a full pre-delivery inspection, new MOT, and 6-month mechanical warranty. This is a truly charming and collectible early ‘Duetto’, combining originality, low mileage, and Italian flair – an ideal addition to any classic collection.
