Porsche 986 Boxster 2.7 - 31k, 1 owner, exceptional

We are fortunate to see some lovely examples of the early 986 Boxsters that we specialise in selling, but every now and again something really special turns up. In this case, we were called a couple of weeks ago by a local chap in North Devon who asked whether we might be interested in buying his Boxster….and I mean HIS Boxster, as he had ordered it new over 23 years ago!

W80XER is an exceptional car in all respects – unbroken and detailed history from Day 1, just 31,149 miles from new, full service history and metronomic MOT passes every March since 2003. In 21 tests it has had just two advisories – uneven wear on a front tyre in 2017, and a small weep from the oil filter housing in 2018. Condition wise, the car is absolutely exceptional for an original 23 year old car – just look through the gallery of pictures to see what we mean.

The owner, a design engineer by profession, specified the car how he wanted it, eschewing the usual “silver with black leather” for a striking combination of classic Guards Red, with Savannah Beige Alcantara interior. The 18″ 993 Turbo-look wheels are finished in black with polished rims, and options fitted include a polished stainless steel exhaust finisher, rollover bars in Guards Red, silver instrument dials and a 3 spoke steering wheel. The personalised registration W80XER was purchased by him for £399 in advance of delivery, and has been on the car since first registered on 31st March 2000. The plate has a current valuation of £2,500 and will remain with the car.

This car has been garaged from new, and meticulously cleaned after every journey. The owner tells me he never took it out in the rain, and judging by the condition of the underside, suspension components and exhaust system, I can well believe it. What sets this car apart from almost all other Boxsters of this age is the cosmetic condition of all the trim and interior – the exterior black scuttle trim has retained its colour, the headlights are perfectly clear, the kick panels and interior surfaces completely unscuffed. There is no fading or UV damage to any part of the car, quite incredible really and a credit to its fastidious owner.

On the road, W80XER drives as well as any 986 I’ve driven, supple and squeak-free, with instinctive steering and wonderfully balanced handling. We have had to do very little to prepare the car for sale, just a Minor service and replacing one of the spark plug tubes, which had started to weep at the outer ‘O’ ring.
