PORSCHE 928 GT 1993

1993 Porsche 928 GT. Red with black piped leather upholstery. 6 previous keepers. 182,237 miles. MOT to end May 2024. Complete with extensive box file containing manuals and reflecting over £10k recent expenditure, including £4k in the last few months for all fluids service and rectification of various issues and prior to that, much other expenditure. The car presents very well for its age and mileage and needs to be used and enjoyed. There is some inevitable wear to the driver’s seat bolster (see photos). At some stage, the car has had a full re-paint so the overall paint condition is good with no chips etc. Recent wheel refurbishment and good tyres all round. The engines on these cars were built to last more than 250,000 miles before rebuild and despite the high mileage, the engine is strong and was checked out a few years ago by renowned specialist Paul Stephens who did not recommend any works. Included in the file is a Porsche Cars GB letter of authenticity.
One of the rarest and most desirable 928 derivatives introduced at the 1977 Geneva motor show. The 928 was conceived (and priced) as the flagship of the Porsche range. A luxurious sports car, it was styled in house by American, Tony Lapine, as the replacement for the aging, compromised 911. Ultimately, the newcomer failed to usurp its tail-heavy sibling despite becoming the only sports car ever to win the European Car of the Year title (1978). Built around a galvanised steel monocoque, the 2+2 made extensive use of aluminium for its wheels, doors, bonnet, transaxle housing, front suspension wishbones, rear suspension uprights, upper links and main cross member. This practice not only saved weight but also contributed to near perfect 49:51 weight distribution. Available with a choice of manual or automatic transmission (housed in its award-winning passive rear steer Weissach transaxle) the 928 was regarded as a crushingly capable Grand Tourer. The subject of continual development, the model evolved through S, S2, S4 and GT guises before the arrival of the final GTS version at the 1991 Frankfurt Motor Show. Reputedly capable of 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds and 169 mph, this more driver focussed 928 GT could only be had with manual transmission and was powered by a reworked 4957cc DOHC 32 valve V8 that developed some 306 bhp and 317lbft. Riding on alloy wheels and sporting a prominent rear spoiler, the GT gained a computer-controlled PSD locking differential from 1990 onwards. This example is understood to be one of just 238 right hand drive GT cars made and boasts the enhanced M28.47 engine (325bhp) and G28.55 dog leg 5 speed manual gear box. The accompanying V5 registration document lists the 2 + 2 seater as a 928 GT and was declared new at first registration 1st March 1993.
