VW CORRADO VR6 STORM 1996
**Update just passed another MOT with flying colours**For sale VW Corrado VR6 Storm in the best colour Mystic Blue, extensive history file from day one, huge folder full of receipts, fully stamped service book, Hpi clear, Registered January 1996 so one of the last
I purchased this in June 2020 from a club member, it was a clean example with good history and provenance but still needed a lot of work to get to this level.
Build started by removing all subframes, suspension, brakes, fuel tank, basically everything underneath, all the underseal was removed, every part cleaned, all metal parts blasted and powder coated, every bush, nut, washer was replaced where required with oem and nickel plated to prevent rusting to give that show finish
Onto the body, it had a partial respray while with the previous owner but further work was required, the roof, around the windscreen and rear quarter needed work, upon closer inspection by the body shop we concluded that the paint was too ‘thick’ and had lost the edge on those stunning lines, there were a few imperfections in the paint which I just couldn’t live with so the only way to achieve a perfect finish was too start again, a full bare metal respray ensued with all windows, doors, tailgate, wings and anything else that could be removed was done so with the exception of the engine bay. Various repairs to the metal work were carried out, where filla had previously been used new metal was welded in to make it as good as new. A new windscreen was fitted and all existing windows bonded in correctly to ensure a perfect finish. All inner sills, inside of rear quarters and anywhere else where dinitrol rust prevention could be sprayed was done to to prevent any further rust
The final treat was to treat the car with XPEL ppf to whole front of vehicle along with lower sills and rear quarters to protect from any stone chip damage in the future.
Onto the coolant system, this had been replaced prior to my ownership, all coolant has been flushed and replaced again, new washers, seals and rubbers replaced for peace of mind.
Onto the engine this was removed completely and send to Stealth for a full top end rebuild to include new chains, head skim and new clutch, any extra work including repair to the head were carried out at the same time, simply the instruction was if it needs doing do it
Onto the interior all seats were removed and deep cleaned, front seats had some wear and cracks from a previous poor repair, these were fully stripped back and refinished to as new but still look authentic, head lining had the dreaded sag so was removed and recovered
Jewel in the crown is the very rare factory Diavia aircon, this was fully rebuilt to include all new hoses, compressor, condenser, dryer and sensors, this now works perfectly, a very rare option indeed
Onto the brakes all four disks and calipers and carriers were rebuilt along with new hubs and bearings, new bolts, washers and zinc plated as required, new Abs pump from BBA Reman with lifetime guarantee
All exterior trim intact, very tiny Knick to one outer window scraper, no cracks to headlights or fogs, all badges replaced with oem or Renewart, dealer plates fitted
Driveshafts removed and rebuild maintained the factory shaft for that oem look, steering rack new rubbers and bushes.
Gearbox o2a tower upgrade with billet shifter by corrado club member, new bushings to both tower and selector end to stop that sloppy gear change and make factory fresh
Milltek cat back fitted to release that lovely vr6 sound, original exhaust available
Car sits slightly lower on H & R springs with Sachs dampers, they were on the car when I purchased and are the perfect combo
Car comes with first aid kit, warning triangle, original cd/radio, two keys and thatcham immobiliser
Original Solitude alloys refinished again due to too much paint, fully stripped to bare metal and refinished.
Car is literally perfect in every respect
It is a 5 owner car covered 137k. Do not confuse this with your average rebuild, for those who know Stanford Hall is the concourse show to be seen at and have your car judged, it won runner up only missing out by one point due to having Cd,s in the door pocket!!! this is up there with the best, any inspection welcome, full photo album showing the build from the beginning is available
Never had any intention to sell and in no rush but another dream car has popped up so looking to make room in the garage …
