Rare and sought after 1968 TVR Vixen S1 chassis no. VX178F
(only 117 built and currently less than 10 on the road in the UK)
Unfinished restoration project – With some sadness, I have had to admit defeat, I just do not have the time, skills or funds to complete the restoration of this rare and beautiful little British sportscar, so I’m passing her on for the fitting completion she definitely deserves.The car comes with V5 and a memory stick with a huge number of photos of the restoration, plus tons of useful other photos, documents, also some images of original TVR adverts and motor show launch promo pictures.
NB. Car is not drivable so will need to be trailered/transported
Chassis
Fully repaired – all rust cut out and new tubing internally sleeved and rosette+ seam welded in, then blasted, zinc sprayed and powder coated.
Suspension
Superflex blue bushes throughout, all new springs and AVO shock absorbers with adjustable ride height. Brand new cast aluminium rear uprights with new rods and cotter pins. All new wheel bearings.
Engine
1.6 Ford crossflow 711 block, rebuilt with new +0.3 thou” pistons and rings, new mains, new big ends, new cam bearings, new core plugs, oil seals and gaskets throughout. Kent fast road cam (531?) with duplex timing chain and new tensioner. New head with hardened valve seat for unleaded petrol. Ford 4-speed gearbox with little wear, new clutch and clutch slave cylinder. Weber inlet manifold and 32 DGAV carb reconditioned and re-jetted to suit (no fuel lines or fuel pump, oil pump or exhaust system currently.
Brakes
Brand new rear drums and shoes, reconditioned front callipers with new discs and pads. No hoses, servo or reservoir. Handbrake mechanism refurbished but needs new cable.
Wheels
Triumph TR4 Wire wheels in good condition with rare 3-eared knock-offs. Tyres ok.
Bodywork
Removed from chassis and partially stripped of unsightly brown paint (registered as blue). Unfitted new replacement GRP roof section (to delete sunroof) Unfitted new GRP footwell floors to convert to bolt- on bodyshell. Replacement bonnet (from ex TVR racing driver Gerry Marshall’s company car) No bonnet mounting frame currently. Front windscreen removed but in good condition, rare blue plexiglass rear screen removed and in good condition. All door glass and frames in good condition, one door partially rebuild the other currently un-restored (for reference). All four cast aluminium corner bumpers present (2 still on the car). Rear lights removed and restored, including number plate lamp. Brand new correct side repeaters and rubber gaskets, brand new headlights (unfitted). Dashboard removed and recovered, instruments and switch gear restored/replaced, no wiring loom currently. Some restored interior vinyl bits, old crusty ones present (for reference). No seats currently.
