The Aston Martin Valkyrie
When Adrian Newey, the most successful Formula 1 designer of all time, first had the idea of building the most uncompromising road car of all time on a beach in the Maldives in 2012, the choice fell on Aston Martin, one of the main sponsors of the RedBull Formula 1 team at the time. Adrian Newey drew the first sketches of ‘Project Nebula’, a play on the names Newey, RedBull and Lagonda Aston Martin, by hand on his famous drawing pad in Milton Keynes. These led to the Valkyrie concept ‘AM-RB 001’, which was presented to the public for the first time on 15 July 2016. Aston Martin used the following years for the challenging development of the ambitious vision of the Formula 1 legend. Renowned partners were recruited, each of whom were and still are absolute experts in their field. The engines were supplied by Cosworth, the batteries by Rimac, the tyres by Michelin, the electronics by Bosch and the monocoque by Multimatic.
Just under a year later, on 6 March 2017, the final name ‘Valkyrie’ was announced, which has its origins in Norse mythology and, like all modern Aston Martin models, begins with the letter V. After further years of development, including the support of multiple time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen, the final production vehicle was finally unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019. However, series production of the 150 coupés did not begin until November 2021 due to the many years of challenging development work. Despite Euro6 emissions, the symphony-like 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine delivers 1,015 hp with a maximum of 11,100 rpm. Together with the electric drive, which sits between the combustion engine and transmission, the Valkyrie achieves a total system output of 1,155 hp with a kerb weight of just 1,270 kg. The active aerodynamics concept, which combines philosophies from Le Mans and Formula 1, produces so much downforce that, in addition to DRS, special flaps had to be integrated into the diffuser to bleed off downforce, as otherwise the road tyres would burst under the gigantic force.
To find space in Newey's compact creation and save weight, Aston Martin opted for a sequential gearbox derived from motorsport, which is smaller and lighter than a typical dual-clutch gearbox. The gears can be engaged via the magnetic paddle shifters on the removable steering wheel without having to operate a clutch pedal, as is normally the case with transmissions of this type. This is possible thanks to a small electric motor from Ricardo, which takes care of getting off the line. Many incredible details and stories make the Valkyrie a perfect work of art. With participation from 2025 and a possible victory of the racing version ‘Valkyrie AMR LMH’ at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Valkyrie has the chance to go down in history books as a legend of its time, just like the McLaren F1.
Chassis 84
The story of number 84 of 150 Valkyrie Coupes ever built began on 9 January 2017, with the order confirmation and an expected delivery date in the third quarter of 2019. An update on the status of the order followed on 7 November 2017. The unique configuration of the vehicle was finalised on 8 December 2022 and confirmed by the first owner with the final payment. On 10 October 2023, the long-awaited first delivery with a mileage of 225 km followed to the first and so far only owner of this vehicle, who subsequently registered it in Germany. The first service at the specialist Aston Martin Valkyrie Service Centre took place on 25 June 2024 with a mileage of 276 km. The second service followed on 18 February 2025 with 338 km. Both were carried out as part of the service plan, which is active until October 2026. In addition, the large seat option was ordered, which will be fitted uppon arrival.
