Description

We are extremely proud and honoured to offer you this very special opportunity in securing one of the most significant ''Supercars'' of our time. This stunning 1993 Jaguar XJ220 is considered to be one of the most collectable of the early Global Supercars ever to be made in the collector car market. This absolute iconic Jaguar XJ220 started life as a mid-engine, four-wheel-drive concept car developed by Jaguar employees in their spare time. The XJ220 was first conceived by engineering director Jim Randle and a small group known as the The Saturday Club. They witnessed the launch of the Porsche 959 which was a four-wheel drive supercar prepared for Group B racing. As early as 1984, the small team at Jaguar thought a similarly driven, 4WD Jaguar with V12 power would take Jaguar to the top. By the time the first customer cars were delivered in 1992, the financial crisis and costs cuts at Jaguar hit hard and the car was scaled back. The V12 was swapped for TWR's developed Garrett T3 Twin-Turbo 3.5L V6, developing 373KW/542bhp which was more then the first choice V12's 500bhp. The AWD system developed by TWR/Jaguar was also dropped and power was then sent only to the rear wheels via the 5 Speed manual gearbox, however the aesthetic design of the car remained the same.
A joint venture between Jaguar and Tom Walkinshaw Racing, after much success in Le Mans 24hr racing with Jaguar, was formed with the aim to build the fastest road car in the world. With a top speed of 217mph, the XJ220 was the fastest production car from its launch through to 1993. It was handy on the track too, it went straight to the top of the Nurburgring time sheets in 1991, recording a lap of 7:46:36 which was the fastest time recorded for a road car at the time and hardly surprising, considering it was built with help from Tom Walkinshaw Racing. This peaked initial interest in the car, with potential build allocation of 350 units and over 1500 deposits taken. Between the 1990s financial recession and the cars retail price of 470,000, few took up the offer of ownership and only 281 cars were produced throughout its run.
This very special example presented here for the first time in 22 years is build no #117. Sold new to a Mr A.M Jahla in Banbury UK by Jaguar Sports Ltd on 10 December 1993. He was the lucky 1st custodian of this beautiful Jaguar till 2001 when her next and only other custodian secured her and imported to Australia in 2002, living in his collection for the past 22 years until now. She has travelled ONLY 3,700mls from new and is ''LIKE NEW'' throughout with her original delivery books, original factory tool kit and manuals all in tact. The original factory colour combination of ''Spa'' Silver Metallic with her soft Grey Leather cabin is in superb overall condition. Her factory bespoke alloys are in perfect order, all her switch gear and controls are in perfect order as you would expect and she is totally/completely original and period correct. This is 1 of ONLY 69 factory built RHD examples from the total of 281 XJ220's ever built so this is a very rare find not to be missed and hopefully stays in Australia as she is also advertised overseas.
This truly is a very rare chance to acquire this very special 90's Supercar in her original delivered colours and with matching engine and gearbox totally original and only 2 collector owners from new. This significant Jaguar XJ220 is a definite acquisition for any serious car collector the world over by one of the most historical car brands ever and where it all started for the ''Supercar'' genre'. With LHD examples currently selling for $900k+ overseas with far more mileage this factory RHD with probably one of the lowest mileage in the world of 3,700mls is massive value.
