Description
Background:
The Ginetta G20 was a standout addition to the British motorsport scene when it was introduced in 2004. Designed initially for its own single-make championship, it soon found its way into various branches of motorsport. Built around a lightweight tubular chassis, fibreglass body, and the ever-tuneable Ford Zetec engine, it quickly made an impression.
Whilst an extraordinary racing car, it was clear that on the road or for track day use, it would represent a devastating prospect. To explore this, Ginetta built what is believed to be just one road car—fully registered and road legal.
The Car:
Road-registered and factory-built by Ginetta in 2004 as a demonstrator, a purpose it served for two years.
With ultimate performance in mind, it was built not with the standard 1.8-litre engine but with the more powerful 2.0-litre Zetec engine, producing 189 BHP—equating to just over 300 BHP per tonne. The specification is mouth-watering:
Jenvey throttle bodies
Professionally rebuilt engine less than 100 miles ago to a robust specification, including new main and big end bearings and reinforced ARP bolts
Piper cams and uprated valves
660 kg (wet)
Double wishbone suspension all round with fully adjustable coilovers
Reliable and proven 5-speed Ford ‘Type 9’ gearbox
Ford Sierra back axle
Disc brakes all round—refurbished front callipers and new rear callipers
Heat-wrapped Tony Law exhaust: a custom-made system originally developed for their Class A racers, designed to accommodate the throttle bodies and injectors
Supplied freshly serviced, with a long MOT valid until April 2026.
An extraordinary road car or track day weapon that would humble vehicles worth ten times as much.
