Description
A Ford Capri 3.0 litre Ghia, presented in beautiful Diamond White with a Cocoa cloth interior. For sale from the collection of a discerning owner who always seeks to acquire the best example available, this particular vehicle benefits from a comprehensive restoration to the bodywork and the mechanicals and presents in a truly outstanding condition.
With just three owners in total and displaying a mere 58300 documented miles, this particular 3.0 litre Ghia is almost unique these days in featuring the much favoured 4-speed manual gearbox, rather than a 3-speed automatic gearbox.
Following a comprehensive restoration, the vehicle was placed on static display in a vehicle showroom so, today, still presents in restoration-fresh condition. Since being returned to the road, sparing but regular use has seen VMR 8T remain in a tip-top mechanical condition.
The bodywork was subject to a bare-metal respray and remains pin-sharp to this day. The ‘tilt and slide’ sunroof works perfectly with no evidence of leaks and all of the satin black trims remain in unblemished condition. The interior trim remains in very good original condition with no major damage to the seat cloth, the roof lining is unmarked and the dashboard, notorious for cracking in the sun, is in near perfect condition. All instruments work and the original Ford SRT 32 ‘Turnolock’ radio/cassette is, pleasingly, still there. The rear parcel shelf has, mercifully, survived being cut about to accommodate upgraded speakers.
Mechanically, the vehicle wants for nothing. As part of the restoration, the engine, gearbox, propshaft and differential were all rebuilt and the suspension refinished and re-bushed. The suspension work is evidenced by the arrow-straight performance, even on the most challenging of country roads. The brakes also received all due attention, including new brake lines, callipers, drums, pads and shoes, offering assured and straight line deceleration when required.
Accompanying the vehicle is a comprehensive portfolio of paperwork, including…
The original Operating Guide
Capri Accessory booklet
A full written description of the restoration work undertaken in 2010
Multiple service and parts invoices
Every single tax disc ever issued for this car
Since acquisition by the current owner in March 2021, further significant improvements have been made, to include…
Power steering rack recondition
Renew rear shock absorbers
Renew flexi brake hoses
Replace throttle cable
Replace thermostat and Viscous Fan Coupling
Weber carburettor service
Plus more…
I have driven the vehicle ninety miles to return it to South Norfolk and I can confirm that it is, indeed, in very fine fettle and absolutely ready for the show season. It may be unique in being the only manual 3.0 litre Ghia still on the road and is, by far, the best presented and nicest driving Capri that I have had the pleasure to be entrusted with.
