Overview

For a very long time — over fifty years, in fact— fans of the Ford Mustang who happened to live on the wrong side of the Atlantic were denied the pleasure of walking into their local Ford dealership and ordering a proper V8 muscle car. Buying a Mondeo doesn’t have quite the same sense of occasion. Then in 2015 all their childhood dreams came into reality when Ford finally started shipping Mustangs for sale in Europe. 

The seller of this particular car, a professional automotive engineer, purchased it new in 2018 and has remained its only owner ever since. And in this time it has been the recipient of an enormous amount of work to improve its performance. But inkeeping with the background of its owner, this wasn’t a backyard job carried out by an enthusiastic amateur, oh no. Hendy Ford Performance were entrusted with executing the work which has included fitting a Roush supercharger, shock absorbers, and Stage 2 performance upgrades. The result of all this mechanical improvement — and much more besides — is that the car is now said to produce 727 horsepower. Which is a whole lot of horses. 

The car’s one-and-only owner has been happy to make a 180-mile round trip each year, just to have it serviced at Hendy. And why wouldn’t you when it’s a supercharged V8 like this? We’d be coming up with excuses for that kind of drive every weekend. 

Looking inside the car, you’d be forgiven for thinking it had just rolled off the showroom floor, it’s that clean throughout. Which shows you how fastidious the owner has been in keeping their Mustang in top condition. They even say the car has been washed and polished pretty much every week since new. 

Take a look at the long list of improvements to this Mustang and you’ll get an idea of how well it has been engineered. Much care and consideration has gone into creating a genuinely magnificent machine, one which drives unlike any Mustang you’re likely to encounter on the road. And the best thing is that at a glance you wouldn’t even know it. The only hint of difference on the outside is a set of wider wheels and tyres, otherwise it remains as standard, finished in a fabulous shade of Grabber Blue paint.

• There is a small scratch on the nearside front spoiler, which has been touched up

• Small, unobtrusive crack in the offside front fog light housing 

• The bonnet and both front wings have been resprayed by Hendy to rectify some electrolytic corrosion which had begun to appear

• This paintwork was very well executed, and blends in with the rest of the car nicely

• New stripes on bonnet and doors 

• The front end of the car is now almost completely free from stonechips and scratches 

• 20-inch Project 6 wheels, ten-inch width at the front and 11-inch at the rear

• Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, all with 4-5 mm said to be remaining 

• Some light scuffs on the wheel rims have been touched in with paint 

• The pictured Shadow wheels are shod with winter tyres and are available by separate negotiation

Mechanical

• 4,951 cc V8 engine

• The car’s first service was carried out by a Ford main dealer, and subsequent services have been undertaken by Hendy

• In Dec 2018 the car was fitted with a Roush supercharger to take the power output to 670 bhp, and a Roush coil-over shock absorber kit, at a cost of over £14,000 

• The suspension upgrade brings the car in line with those produced for the US market 

• The seller informs us that the Roush installation was chosen for its reliability and that ‘the Roush system was developed with and tested with Ford to OEM standards’

• Furthermore, he says that the Roush suspension and BMR rear subframe lock were sufficient to add real handling poise and stability without being overly hard or losing significant refinement, giving real driver confidence

• Phase 2 upgrade carried out in Oct 2019

• All brake discs and pads changed 

• Rear brake callipers replaced prior to the car’s 2025 MOT test 

• Stainless steel Borla Touring exhaust system

• The vendor tried fitting an X pipe but found the exhaust note wasn’t to their taste 

• New Yuasa 5000 battery fitted 

• The engine is said to use no oil between its regular changes, with the gearbox and axle also being in excellent condition 

• A Steeda clutch spring has been fitted, which is said to improve the clutch feel

• The seller tells us that the car starts first time every time, warms up quickly, and runs perfectly, with superb throttle response

Summary

Sometimes we don’t realise what we need until it’s presented to us. And this Mustang is now very much at the top of our list of ‘needs’. Coming in just above oxygen and water. Now that we’ve seen it — and especially now that we’ve seen its mechanical upgrades — we’ll be very sad to see the winning bidder disappearing off over the horizon, wearing their biggest grin. But happy for them, of course.
