Overview

STI - three letters you never want to see on a medical report, but three letters you definitely want to see on the back of a Subaru that you’re thinking of buying. Standing for Subaru Technica International - Subaru’s in-house motorsport team, STI-badged Imprezas and WRXs are the ones to have as an enthusiast, as they represent the pinnacle of the models’ development.

The 2011-2013 WRX STI is no exception (note the lack of the ‘Impreza’ name, which was officially dropped from 2011 onwards) and saw the return of the much-loved saloon bodyshell, though the hatchback was also offered during this generation. Featuring the classic boxer-four engine which was now more audible than the previous generation thanks to an exhaust system redesign, Subaru’s active all-wheel-drive system and revised suspension, the 2011-13 WRX STI was widely praised by the motoring press, and remains a firm favourite to this day.

This particular example was first registered in September 2012, and has been in the care of its current owner since September 2024. Cherished and used sparingly throughout its current ownership, during which time it has been dry-stored and wax oiled (something that is widely regarded as an essential piece of maintenance for any WRX STI owner) a change in health circumstances has resulted in this WRX STI being put up for sale.

Interior

  • Driver-focused interior in very good condition throughout

  • Both Recaro front seats are in great shape, with only some light wear to the outer bolsters on both seats

  • The dashboard, steering wheel and door cards are free from damage

  • The high-traffic areas such as the shifter, door pulls and switchgear display a level of usage wear commensurate with the car’s age and mileage

  • In the rear, the lower edges of the front seats are lightly scuffed

  • The rear seats are free from any signs of heavy wear

  • The boot presents well, with no obvious staining or damage that we can see

  • No reported faults or issues from the seller

Exterior

  • Classic combination of blue paintwork with gold wheels

  • The bodywork looks to be in excellent condition, with no noted signs of corrosion or damage

  • The paintwork would benefit from a full correction or detailing, as the sunlight shows a heavy level of ‘swirls’ within the clear coat

  • We noted some kerb rash on the nearside front wheel

  • Window decals were fitted in October 2024 at the same time as the latest service

  • The front end and exposed edges exhibit the usual smattering of stone chips expected from a high-performance vehicle

  • Both headlights are slightly clouded/UV damaged particularly on the upper edges

  • Overall, a very smart example of the performance saloon that would no doubt be further improved by a day of paint correction

Mechanical

  • 2,457cc flat-four turbocharged engine producing 296bhp

  • Six-speed manual gearbox

  • All-wheel drive with Subaru’s intelligent all-wheel-drive system

  • The rear brake pads were replaced in May 2022

  • No reported mechanical modifications

  • The engine bay is clean and tidy throughout and presents well

  • Chassis wax-oiled in January 2025

  • Said to be in excellent health by the seller, with a recently-fitted battery and no reported issues

Summary

This WRX STI (alhtough, let’s be honest, most Subaru enthusiasts will still call it an Impreza!) is a fine example of Subaru’s rally inspired performance saloon, which benefits from a documented cam belt change, good history and no reported modifications - a rare sight for a car that is so receptive to tuning and upgrades, meaning cars like this are becoming harder and harder to find.
