EXTERIOR
Defying both its years and miles this one owner M Coupé presents in magnificent original condition. We are fortunate to have sold a number of special Z3Ms over the years and, having been cherished by the same careful owner since new, the quality of this particular car is up there with the best. The Estoril Blue paintwork has polished up very nicely indeed with little more than a dusting of light frontal stone chips to note. There are no scrapes or scuffs on the bumpers or arches, all the badges are immaculate, and the headlights are perfectly clear. The only real negatives we have been able to find are a couple of kerb marks on the rear wheels, which is unsurprising given that all the alloys still appear to be in their factory finish. The tyres are Michelin PS4s all round and the underside of the car is also notably tidy. All in all, a highly impressive unrestored example that looks to have driven only half the mileage.
INTERIOR
Further testament to the car’s careful ownership, the interior here is perhaps the finest we have seen of any M Coupé. Sitting inside, it’s hard to believe the car has driven even 40k miles, let alone 80k. In keeping with the exterior hue, the seats are upholstered in the attractive blue and black Nappa leather option, and everything looks truly superb. Estoril Blue trim extends along the centre console and on to the dash, steering wheel, and door cards, which are again all first-rate. Quite remarkably the deeply bolstered seats show next to no signs of wear, including on the driver’s side, and the rest of the leather throughout the cabin is also excellent. The texture around the steering wheel is spot-on and its centre panel is unfaded. The gear knob is perfect, the switchgear is almost entirely unmarked, and even commonly scratched items such as the dials and chrome bezels are pristine. The carpets are also spotless and, having always been protected by an additional set of mats, the original BMW overmats still look new. In the boot the retractable load cover, dog guard, BMW first aid pack, and complete tool kit are all present and correct.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The engine bay is as well preserved as the rest of the car with no signs of any accident damage or previous poor repair. The S50 straight-six fires into life first turn of the key, idles smoothly up to temperature, and is as thrilling as ever on test. Up until 2014 the car’s servicing was carried out solely within the BMW main dealer network before moving into the care of marque specialists who have look after the general maintenance ever since. The last service was only recently carried out in February 2025 at 80,480 miles. Included in this work was an engine oil and filter change, brake fluid change, a test of the Vanos system, and an underside boot floor inspection with no issues found.
HISTORY FILE
After enquiring about the brand new M Coupé model he’d seen at the 1998 NEC Motor Show, Mr Denton placed his order for the car you see here just a few months later. Spec-wise he opted for a number of cost options including metallic paint, side airbags, a graduated tint windscreen, glass sunroof, headlamp washer jets, the Harman/Kardon HiFi sound system, and a first aid kit. After its first registration in October 1999, Mr Denton would go on to drive the Z3 regularly between the UK and the south of France, clocking up an impressive 80k miles along the way.
The car is accompanied by a fantastic maintenance record, fully stamped in the original service booklet (see entries below). Its regular servicing and maintenance is further verified with every invoice and almost every MOT certificate from new. There are multiple spare keys present alongside some great period documentation including original sales brochures, the original vehicle order form and bill of sale, and various letters and correspondence from BMW. The current V5C registration document shows 0 former keepers.
