EXTERIOR
The Triumph TR6 needs little introduction in the world of classic British sports cars and this prime award-winning UK example is a brilliant testament to one of Coventry’s finest. Finished in the striking factory colour of Magenta, (Code 92), the paintwork looks amazing and boasts a deep, polished shine and uniform finish. The panel fit and gaps are remarkably good and far superior to those on the usual offerings. The hood and plastic screens are pristine and the fit is superb. The trim, mirror chrome and badges are in beautiful condition and period correct number plates with raised digits and even the supplying dealer tax disc holder remains fitted. Those seeking an example very close to standard will appreciate this fine example of this muscular, purposeful, no-nonsense British sports car.
INTERIOR
A very original interior will delight those seeking a TR6 that remains true to the original Triumph product when it rolled off the production line in May 1973. The expanded PVC leathercloth with ventilated seat facings in Black, (Code 11), are in excellent undamaged condition and support you in all the right places. The factory original non-glare wood finish fascia with a completely uncracked padded surround is in excellent order, as are the black vinyl door cards. All switchgear is in fine working order and an original steering wheel remains fitted. The Smiths gauges operate and provide healthy readings. Evoking true 1970’s nostalgia is a Stereo 8 Radiomobile 8-track player with large case full of 8-track cassettes! Unspoilt and true to Triumph factory build with real TR six appeal!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The factory straight six-cylinder engine can be confirmed by the engine number clearly stamped in the block as matching that on the heritage certificate issued by the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust. Displacing 2498cc, this UK 125bhp engine has received subtle reliability improvement upgrades such as electronic ignition and a Bosch fuel pump. The engine performs brilliantly and the sound emitting from the correct specification twin side exit exhaust is truly intoxicating. The beautifully clean engine bay retains all factory plates and stickers to include the two metal body number tags on the bulkhead, one fitted by the body tub manufacturer and the other fitted by Triumph. Factory specified with overdrive which is fully operational, the sturdy 4-speed transmission works wonderfully.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original steel disc type wheels with bright finish polycarbonate hub trims and chromium plated embellishers look superb. All wheels including the spare are shod in matching branded Fulda tyres upgraded to size 185-70 x 15. The brakes are hydraulic divided with a direct acting servo and front discs to give positive stopping power.
HISTORY FILE
The heritage certificate in the history file issued by the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust confirms this TR6 PI was built for the RHD, home market on the 17th May 1973 in colour Magenta with Black hood and Black trim. Date of despatch to Mann Egerton Limited of St Albans was 19th June 1973 and the supplying dealer was nearby Broxbourne Motors Ltd in Hoddesdon. The heritage certificate confirms further details including factory options as well as the engine, body and chassis numbers all of which correlate with the vehicle. The car was registered on the 3rd August 1973 to first owner, Mr J.H.M Bent-Marshall, and new vehicle supplying documentation in the colossal history file is made out to him, as is the original Passport to Service booklet. When the car was just 10 months old, it was purchased by the second keeper, Mr Perry, who as shown on the sales invoice paid £1,595 less £445 for his 1971 Austin 1100! Mr Perry would go on to own the car for 36 years until 2010. In the early years the car was used regularly until he acquired a company car and the Triumph was semi-retired to weekend leisure use. In the late 1990’s, Mr Perry decided to have the car restored by very respected Triumph experts, Robsport International. In 2010, the car returned to Robsport to be sold to the third owner, Mr Tim Hurry, who had always longed for a Magenta TR6 having seen one in a showroom many years before and had been searching for the right car for a long time. Over 10 years during his ownership, the car has been on a number of European excursions and extensively shown, winning various Best in Show awards as well as being magazine featured several times. There has been just one further keeper.
The colossal history file is simply wonderful and dates back to the very early years including vast wads of invoices and MOT records and fully traceable ownership history which is very rare. All magazine features have been kept along with photo albums complete with trophies won, early point of sale documentation and the heritage certificate issued by the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust. Matching numbers, UK car, desirable Magenta colour, unmolested, fully traceable history, award-winning condition and ready for cross-continental road trips. There are very few TR6’s to rival this stunning example.
MOT June 2026, HPI Clear.
