EXTERIOR

A fine example of early 00s luxury, this rare V12 coupé presents handsomely in timeless Brilliant Silver. The CL’s understated yet elegant lines have aged very well indeed, and we’re pleased to report that even on close inspection the condition of the car does not disappoint. All the paintwork presents to a high standard, and other than some very light marking to the body and chrome there is little to detract from the overall highly impressive finish. The Xenon headlights are clear and without discolouration, both side of the car are perfectly straight, and the original 19-inch AMG wheels are near-immaculate with matching Pirelli tyres all round.

INTERIOR

The opulent CL cabin is a magnificent place to be with lashings of hand-stitched Nappa leather, walnut trim, and a plethora of creature comforts including heated electric massage seats, soft-close doors, dual digital climate control, satnav, and a glass sunroof – even the original Nokia mobile phone handset is still present and correct in the front central armrest. In line with the low mileage there are very few signs of wear to note, even to commonly scuffed areas such as the driver’s bolster. The V12 kick plates remain in fine order, the glossy wood trim is unmarked, and protecting the footwell carpets are original Mercedes overmats in equally excellent condition. The fit and finish within this example is to a very high standard, just as you’d expect from a premium Mercedes of this era.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

Powering the CL600 is a 5.8-litre Mercedes V12 producing an impressive 362hp and 520nm of torque. Despite having driven only 36k miles from new this one is accompanied by a great maintenance history recorded in two service booklets. The last service was the larger ‘B’ service, and this was carried out by Mercedes-Benz of Ascot in October 2024 less than 750 miles ago. All 24 spark plugs were replaced in December 2023.

As with the rest of the car the engine bay is particularly clean and tidy with only light surface wear on the painted plastic covers worthy of note. Firing up first turn of the key the CL is a pleasure to drive with effortless V12 performance and near-seamless changes from the 5-speed automatic gearbox. A perfect car for any long journey, and no doubt an attractive prospect the discerning V12 Mercedes collector.

HISTORY FILE

Costing in the region of £104k back in 2001, this beautiful V12 CL has now driven just 36,304 miles from new. The accompanying History File comprises the original Mercedes leather document wallet with all handbooks, the original service booklet plus an additional Mercedes service book with the last three stamps, a raft of MOT certificates and maintenance invoices going back to 2008, a spare remote key, factory spec list, and the current V5C showing only 4 former keepers.
