2022 Porsche Panamera

Historically, if you wanted a potent German saloon car, you’d buy a BMW M5. Or maybe, should it take your fancy, an Audi RS6 or even a Mercedes AMG product. But what if you want to elevate your buying experience and buy from a brand in the upper echelon of the car industry?

In the late 2000s, Porsche sought to answer this call to action by introducing the Panamera. What is effectively a four-door 911. First-generation cars were divisive to say the least; whatever the German version of Marmite is, they were that.

But, for the second generation, Porsche had done away with its slightly bulbous rear end, smartened up the front and brought the interior in line with a new standard. Now it was a legitimate competitor, not only to other brands, but to its range.

The Panamera sits neatly alongside a Cayenne, but given that 99 out of 100 Cayennes will never see more than a resin-gravel driveway, it stands to reason that the additional weight, height and cumbersome-ness could be done away with.

This Panamera is a special one. It’s an inherently more attractive second-generation car, supplied new in 2022. But it has also been fitted with over £24,000 worth of optional extras.

Externally, the car is finished in lustrous purple “Amethyst Metallic”. The car sits atop a set of optional, and you’re going to sense a theme here, 21” Panamera SportDesign wheels. The wheels, which are finished in black with a polished lip, are wrapped in a matching set of Michelin tyres.

The wheels are part of a wider “SportDesign” package. This optional body work styling includes sideskirts that help to artificially lower the car. To complement this new aggressive styling, the car was optioned naturally, with black LED lights (PDLS), privacy glass, black badges and tailpipes.

Optional extras continue inside. Straight out of the “Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur” brochure, you’ll find the interior is finished in two-tone Crayon and Black smooth leather. 18-way adjustable adaptive sports seats, with memory functionality, crests embossed neatly into the headrests, a heated steering wheel and ambient lighting. Of course, no self-respecting Porsche is complete without the classic Sport Chrono package, BOSE surround sound and panoramic glass roof.
