1991 Porsche 944 S2

The 944 Porsche arrived to great acclaim. Here was a Porsche that demonstrated that a successful sporting model could emerge from the shadows of the 911 and was muscular where the previous 924 had been pretty. Adopting a front engine rear wheel drive configuration the car handled and performed very well.

The first major revisions came in 1985 when the 924-style interior was replaced with a 911 style dash known as the "oval dash". Suspension was also revised with an improved HVAC system. The 994 S2 arrived in 1989 with a three-litre engine and 212bhp. The S2 ran until production ended in 1992. With only marginally less power than the Turbo the S2 was arguably the best of the range, performing almost as well and with the monstrous torque of its 3 litre 4-cylinder engine, considered by many to be more drivable in day-to-day use.

Our car is a late model S2 presented in Tahoe Blue with a silver interior. The car was supplied new in March 1991 and comes with a thick file of paperwork and a well stamped service book. The car was serviced every year, mainly by main dealers but also Porsche specialists through to 2008 by when it had covered around 66,000 miles. It has received only sparing use since, now showing 77,000 miles, so just 11,000 miles in 17 years.

It has clearly been loved throughout with subsequent service records including the cam and balance belts being changed in 2022 at 75,000 miles and oil, all filters, spark plugs and bushes replaced in March 2025. It is also interesting to note that most of the problems common to the 944 have been attended to, with new water pump clamps and a replaced dashboard – which few owners do. MOT history is comprehensive, and any advisories have been attended to.

The car has had one or two additions to keep pace with technology in the form of a USB socket and replacement head unit, but other than that shows no signs of any modifications, which is not always the case with this model.

Well cared for and not restored example, our 944 has fine paintwork showing no untoward marks, the interior is all in good condition showing only minor wear. The car also sports a lovely blue mohair hood that was fitted new in April 2023 and mechanically works perfectly.

With its original wheels, all in good condition and the striking colour combination we think this car is an eyeful and guaranteed to attract attention. This lovely Porsche could be a daily driver not only for summer but all year round.
