Overview
The 997 marked a return to form for Porsche's perennially popular paradigm of performance. That's not to say the previous 911 – the 996 – was bad, not by any stretch, but the divisive styling (we're looking at you fried egg headlights) and its commonality with the Boxster had some fans looking elsewhere. They were wrong to do so, obviously, but the 997 greatly improved upon its older brother and as such is considered by many to be the perfect 911.
Blending technical wizardry with dynamic driver engagement the 997, introduced in 2004, remains beautifully balanced and fast enough in even the most basic guise. Available with a host of engines, from the 3.6-litre flat six fitted in the standard Carrera to the 4.0-litre unit in the GT3 RS, power varied from 320-ish horsepower to well over 500 meaning there was a 997 to satiate practically everyone's 911 desires.
But forget the turbos and GT3 RS models for a moment. What if you simply want an engaging, eminently drive-able 911 that has enough tech to keep things comfortable without being overpowering, all the while remaining hugely capable on any road you choose to drive it on? Well, you get yourself a 997 Carrera of course, just like this stunning 2006 model.
With its 3.6-litre, naturally aspirated flat six engine producing 321bhp it has plenty of power for most and a six-speed gearbox only adds to that aforementioned driver engagement. Beautifully presented throughout and with Porsche dealer and specialist service history, not only does it look great but it should be mechanically sound to boot.
The vendor states that the car wants for nothing and the only reason for sale is due to a house purchase so have a good look at the myriad quality photos and then chuck in a bid because the thought of kicking this Porsche 911 in the guts should be all the inspiration you need.

Summary
Arguably the one to go for, the 997 Carrera is pretty close to Porsche perfection and this particular example, what with its six-speed manual gearbox and impressive service history, is a driver's dream.
Well-maintained and clearly cherished it remains an inherently usable 911 that has plenty more to give and as such is hugely desirable. Get your bid in now!
