The De Tomaso Deauville was designed by Tom Tjaarda and the chassis by Giampaolo Dallara. De Tomaso’s design brief was that it was to be an Italian competitor to the Jaguar XJ and the similarities are plain to see, but the drivetrain was sourced from Ford as the intention was to sell the car in America
Just 244 were built between 1971 and 1985 of which around 20 are thought to have been right-hand drive
The monocoque body was hand-built to order in steel with motivation provided by a 300bhp Ford 351 Cleveland driving the rear wheels through a Ford 3-speed automatic. Suspension is fully independent all-round with disc brakes on all four corners
Other features include Campagnolo Magnesium wheels, ZF power-steering, air-conditioning and electric mirrors and windows
This Series 2 Deauville, #02148, was imported by Emelia Concessionaires and first registered to a London-based owner on 20/09/1983, making it one of the last built
With our vendor since 05/03/2012 and has currently covered 70,286km (43,674 miles)
Subsequently, marque specialists 'Three Point Four' were tasked with returning the car to top form after several years in storage (see Seller Rating). Full details and invoices (£18,000) in the history file
More recent expenditure includes a full service, carburettor rebuild, new tie-rod bushes, new starter motor and a new thermostat
With only 12 of these elegant exotic saloons believed to remain in the UK, this is a rare opportunity
