Lancia Appia

There is something engagingly cheeky about the way the little Lancia looks and drives that stays in your head long after the pleasantries of the Fiat and novelty of the two-strokes has faded. It has a solid quality that is way beyond the needs of this class of car, a reminder of Lancias penchant for doing things the hard way wherever possible. This car, reviewed in Classic & Sportscar by its then owner and renowned automotive journalist, Martin Buckley. In March 1959, the third series Appia was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show. Sporting a new front end compared to previous models, mimicking that of the Lancia Flaminia flagship but retaining the characterful suicide doors. Engine power in what was the worlds narrowest V4 went up again to 48 PS, as did top speed, and the braking system was improved with twin leading shoe front drum brakes and a ''Duplex'' dual hydraulic circuit during the 1960 model year.
This being a 1960 car then, makes it one of the most personable and enjoyable to drive of the Appia series of cars. Imported to the UK from Italy in 2018, it has spent most of its life here owned by the automotive Journalist Martin Buckley, where it has been lovingly cared for and featured in many articles and editions of Classic & Sportscar (Britains best selling car magazine). Retaining much of its original Italian charm, it is now ready for a new home and is ready to be enjoyed for the summer!
Exterior
Presentable exterior in a light silver / blue. Signs of paintwork in places, with some paint rough areas, but all in a lovely looking car. The paint colour compliments the brightwork well, which is all present and also in good condition.
Interior
The inside of the Appia is a lovely place to be. In great, the front is fitted with a true bench seat, with no tears or marks. Headlining is in good condition, along with the doorcards which also show no signs of damage. While spartan, the interior really does show such a fantastic Italian charm, with the popular column shift and Lancia script taking pride of place in the drivers eyeline.
Mechanical
Mechanically, the car works well with the expected charm of a 60s Italian car - Multiple receipts and invoices since arriving in the UK highlight the care that it has received since 2018, including many brake & suspension components.
