EXTERIOR

Working as a design study to combine razor sharp styling, with an acknowledgement to yesteryear and the Le Mans winning DBR 1, this striking low-slung Speedster combines enormous presence, incredible performance and bespoke engineering.

Without screens or pillars, the aesthetic is pure theatre with the carbon fibre body draped in the lustrous Onyx Black. With exposed gloss carbon fibre to the front bumper, side sills and rear diffuser this unique spec is subtle yet rich in detail. A re-configured bonnet was necessary to house the updated V12 whilst the bodywork is finished with an up-swept rear spoiler and smoked rear lights – a seriously sinister ‘Black Out’ edition.

The double-bubble rear deck lifts on gas struts to reveal a modest boot, with two areas reserved for a pair of helmets.

INTERIOR

The interior space is certainly unique, combining the traditional with the contemporary. With matte carbon fibre throughout from the door cards to dashboard and across the huge spar between front-seat passengers – Q Branch offers sumptuous crafted old-school leather to fuse a beautifully executed cabin arrangement.

Thick chunks of hide are used for door pulls, seat adjustment and even the glovebox, which becomes a removable handbag in front of the passenger seat. Neat touches also include details such as the one-piece moulded door panels, which incorporate perforations for the hi-fi speakers.

The Speedster’s lack of pillars or a windscreen creates an open air experience with excellent visibility thanks to the large door mirrors doing the job just perfectly, given the lack of a rear view option. Finally, Individual storage pods behind each seat are complimented by a modest boot space.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

Featuring a retuned version of the twin-turbocharged V12 there has been a reduction of more than 100lb ft in peak torque, with 555lb ft now arriving at 5000rpm rather than the 1800rpm in the DBS. The car is now altogether more resolved and civilised at low speeds. Whilst having to work the engine a little harder up the rev range this avoids the sledgehammer of low end torque – making the car all the more approachable and enjoyable.

Underneath the car sits on a heavily reworked combination of Vantage Roadster chassis and DBS front end.

Adaptive Damping ensures performance and compliance in equal measure – AM’s engineering team have created a beautifully balanced car.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

Textured Black Centre Lock wheels house massive Carbon Ceramic brakes – noted for their sublime performance even when cold.

Pirelli provides the contact patch and considering the significant 21-inch wheel and low profile of the rubber, the ride is firm but totally compliant.

HISTORY FILE

Sold new in Germany, this EU specification car has made it’s way to the UK and has recently been serviced by Aston Martin Reading.

A standard service has been carried out, as well as the installation of Apple Car Play.

The car is quite the proposition and represents excellent value against McLaren’s Elva and Ferrari’s Monza SP2.
