Almost 100bhp and 200 ft-lbs more powerful than the ‘standard’ Veyron 16.4
The fastest car in the world
Jeremy Clarkson described the Bugatti Veyron as the 21st Century’s Concorde moment. And the comparison absolutely tallies. Here was a car that took the rulebook and shredded it to pieces. It had more cylinders, more power, more torque and covered more ground than anything else. And it was built to a standard of quality most supercar manufacturers could only dream about.
As though Bugatti had anything further to prove, five years after it introduced the Veyron and with production nearing an end, it took the game on one step further and introduced the Super Sport. The Super Sport took everything that was great about the ‘garden-variety’ Veyron and amplified it. The goliath W16 was massaged to produce 1,183bhp, almost 100bhp more. And torque was raised by an even greater 200 lb-ft – that’s an earth-shattering 1,106 lb-ft in total.
In order to handle the extra power, the carbon-fibre monocoque was made 10 percent stiffer – and, miraculously, 25kg lighter. And in a bid to cheat the wind, the carbon-fibre body was made slipperier. The ‘standard’ Veyron’s protruding snorkel intakes were replaced by flat NACA ducts, enabling the roofline to be essentially flattened, dramatically increasing the drag coefficient.
To seal its place in the annals of automotive history, Bugatti took the Super Sport to Ehra-Lessien in Germany to determine just how fast its latest creation could go. The dizzying headline figures were as follows: 0–60mph in 2.5sec, 0–125mph in 6.7sec (0.6sec quicker than the ‘standard’ Veyron) and 0–186mph in 14.6 seconds (down from 16.7sec). Bugatti’s party trick was the top speed achieved: 268mph, a new production land-speed record.
Though an initial run of 30 cars was planned, overwhelming demand led Bugatti to build 48 Super Sports in total. To mark its record-breaking top speed feat, the first five cars were born as World Record Edition (WRE) Veyron Super Sports and configured in the same black-and-orange specification as the Ehra-Lessien car.
One of One
The Veyron 16.4 Super Sport we are offering was specially built by Bugatti in 2011 for a prominent Middle Eastern customer and, as a result, boasts a unique ‘One of One’ specification. That’s Bugatti’s words, not ours…
Whether said customer was unable to secure one of the five World Record Edition Veyrons or simply wanted an even more exclusive car we do not know. But he chose to honour that special-edition model with a black-and-orange specification that was clearly aesthetically similar, though with a number of key differences.
The most notable of those differences was the matte finish to the exposed carbon-fibre bodywork, rather than the WRE’s gloss lacquer. The contrasting orange on the bodywork and optional WRE wheels is also a slightly lighter shade and there is bespoke orange embroidery and stitching throughout the interior. The orange ‘1/1 in the World’ embroidered on either side of the transmission tunnel is the official factory seal for this unique Veyron.
Chassis number 795029 was delivered new to its first – and only – private owner in Geneva in late 2011. And the car remained in Switzerland until the summer of 2025, during which time it covered a mere 1,012 kilometres. It has only ever been serviced by Bugatti, most recently in February of this year at Bugatti Zurich.
Crucially, in addition to the 110-point check and the replacement of the battery, the Bugatti Passeport Tranquilité four-year service plan was purchased at a cost of 60,000 euros. Valid until 2028, this package comprises four major services, the first of which was carried out in February of this year.
Having covered such scant mileage, the condition of this Veyron 16.4 Super Sport is, as you’d expect, exceptional. There are no discernible blemishes to the exterior and only the slightest measure of wear to the driver’s seat bolster inside. The Alcantara steering wheel and gear-change lever are in especially good condition, retaining that sumptuously soft feel.
A titanic feat of technological might, the Bugatti Veyron will forever be heralded as a landmark car. The Super Sport goes one step further – a faster, lighter and more rare car that acts as a swansong for the groundbreaking Veyron. This unique ultra-low-mileage example, which tilts its hat to the remarkable top-speed record set by Bugatti, sits a cut above its Super Sport counterparts. In case you couldn’t tell, we are totally smitten…
