When Toyota launched the Lexus brand in 1989, debuting their first model, the LS400, it is hard to overstate the subsequent effects on the automotive industry that followed.  In their aim to establish a new true global premium brand originating from Japan, entire philosophies of manufacturing efficiency, reliability, and continual improvement, those that are industry wide-today, were first introduced to the West.
They were evidently successful, to the point where a struggling Porsche transformed their model lineup and factory layout after consultation with Toyota, which could be genuinely attributed to saving the company from their worsening financial hardship of the early 1990s.
Once Lexus was established, the natural progression for a parent company so intertwined with motorsports was to introduce a performance division. An answer to AMG, RS, and M, The F division was launched in 2007. Backed by strong motorsport pedigree, it showcases the brand’s growing ambition to be taken seriously among enthusiasts. The special division announcement was backed by a new engine.
Co-developed by Toyota and Yamaha, the result was a 5-litre naturally aspirated V-8. An impressive showcase of engineering, it featured high-flow aluminium cylinder heads, titanium inlet valves, magnesium valve covers, high-lift camshafts, a dual-length intake, port and direct injectors, dual variable valve timing with electric inlet camshaft actuation, and today revs to 7,300 rpm.
From its introduction, the V8 was exclusively available with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which featured an impressive shift speed of under 100ms.
The RC F launched, with this V8 engine in 2014, and was promptly homologated and sent racing as a GT3 variant. The RC F GT3 has competed in over 230 official events recorded between 2015–2024, claiming wins in WEC, IMSA, and Super GT at circuits such as Interlagos, Sebring, and Fuji.
The Lexus RC F represents a rare breed in today’s performance car market: a naturally aspirated V8 coupe with genuine motorsport pedigree. It serves as Toyota's reminder that Japan still knows how to build an emotional, engaging, and technically brilliant driver’s car; and underneath the inarguable Japanese solidity and premium interior, lies a machine forged with the same spirit that gave the world the legendary LFA.
To bookend the RC F production run, Lexus launched Takumi Edition in 2023. Based on the Track Edition, of which only 50 units were produced and a car that shaves a considerable 80 kg from the weight of the standard RC F, the Takumi exceeds this in both specification and rarity, with total worldwide production limited to just 15 examples.
It features the exterior carbon splitter, bonnet, rear wing, roof, diffuser, side skirts, as well as carbon ceramic brakes. Additionally, the interior is adorned with blue weaved carbon fibre and blue stitching, blue leather and Alcantara accents.
Notably, the Takumi is assembled by Lexus’ most experienced master technicians. As stated by Lexus: “These people are called Takumi, and they devote 60,000 hours to their craft. That’s 8 hours a day, 240 days a year, for over 30 years.”
Having received its first service in April 2025, and with only one owner from new, this example is offered today for sale with just 380 miles. It is available to view at our showrooms just outside London, by appointment only.
