1965 Mini Moke ex Rhodesian Fire Service

Motodrome offer this absolutely gorgeous 1965 Morris Mini Moke Mark One, , finished in Red with white wheels and bumpers, and black hood.

This adorable example was, according to the heritage certificate, sent as a CKD kit to Rhodesia (as it was) to be built up there and was used by the Rhodesian fire service, hence the colour. The majority of proper 1960’s Mokes were finished in Spruce Green, so this one makes a pleasant and eye-catching change.

Being a proper 1960’s Moke, It’s unadorned with the scaffolding that the later Portuguese-built cars have.

The engine number would indicate it’s fitted with a 1970-on 998cc motor, which gives it a little more pep over the usual 848cc

Whilst the Southern African climate was kind to it, by 2017 it was in need of a decent restoration, and there is a South African bill in the history from 2017 for ‘complete overhaul and restoration, respray, engine overhaul, gearbox overhaul with new clutch, suspension, and new interior’ totalling 131000 rand.

It came to the UK in 2017 and correctly registered here in 2018, whereupon it underwent sympathetic further work to bring it up to a high standard, and has been carefully used and maintained subsequently, and when not in use has been in a carcoon.

It has an odometer reading of 93000 miles, but we think from the MOT history it’s been fitted with a replacement speedo, and hence we’re unsure of the mileage

It drives absolutely ‘on the button’ – enormous fun. If you’ve never driven one, imagine a 1960’s Mini 998 with all it’s go-kart handling attributes but less bodywork, and you can’t go far wrong.

Probably the nicest 1960’s Moke currently on the market, it will stand any inspection.
