⭕ VEHICLE SUMMARY
A suburban icon of the 1970s, the Cortina 2000E was a symbol of aspiration and social climbing.
Once ubiquitous on every street corner, the Ford Cortina became the UK's best-selling car throughout its lifetime. The third incarnation arrived in 1970, influenced by US muscle cars of the era. The Cortina was destined for huge success, thanks to its wide dealer network, choice of engine options and stylish design. Its appeal was universal, spanning five unique generations over three decades. It was dependable, reasonably priced, offered a wide variety of body types, and was easy to maintain. However, it was the trim levels that caught the public's attention.
With so many people owning Cortinas, the only way to elevate yourself from your neighbour was the specification of your car. Back in the day when these things mattered, the 2000E was the cause of much curtain twitching. First of all, the 2000E was sold with the biggest engine available to UK customers, the durable and tuneable OHC 2-litre Pinto block, which was often used in competition and became the default power-unit for a huge number of kit cars. The 2000E was distinguished by its rectangular headlamps and vinyl roof; at the time, only the GT variant sported that headlamp option. The interior was finished with a wood finish facia and door cappings and seats with cloth trim and headrests. Also fitted with a centre console clock and rev counter, the specification of the 2000E provided credibility to those swayed by trim-envy.
Coming from just over a two and a half years with our vendor, this beautifully restored Irish-built Cortina 2000E is finished in 'Daytona Yellow' with a black vinyl roof and black cloth interior. Very close in appearance to when it was first registered in late 1975, it has been through an undocumented restoration and has to be considered one of the best Cork-Assembled 2000Es in the UK. Sold with a V5, a MOT to 2026 and a few recent MOTs, it has also just been fitted with four new tyres.
A wonderful opportunity to turn heads with one of the most iconic ‘Dads’ cars of the 1970s, and a promise that you’ll attract more attention than a Porsche.
