MERCEDES 500SLC 1980 LHD

One of approximately 900 road Cars produced.

Supplied new to Berlin, Germany in March 1980

The 500 SLC was launched in 1980 as the successor to the 450 SLC 5.0

It differed from its predecessor only in details, the biggest difference being the 4-speed automatic transmission instead of the 3-speed, lightweight aluminium bonnet and boot lid with original spoiler.

Mercedes built a total of 1,154 units between April 1980 and June 1981, around 20% of which were racing cars.

Very successful in motorsport, the Rally 107s quickly reached legendary status in its era.

500 SLC was only produced as homologation vehicle for rallying by Mercedes and was the top of the range model in 1980 and the fastest and most expensive production Mercedes at the time.

This vehicle had one owner in Germany before it was imported to United Kingdom in 1988 and has had 6 enthusiast owners in the UK since. Car has spent most of its life in dry storage between Monaco and London hence no major corrosion or rust.

I purchased it as a barn find in 2023 from the estate of the last owner of 20 years (where it was in dry storage from 2006 until 2023 pictures available and in advert).

Car has gone through a very detailed and enthusiastic mechanical restoration throughout 2024 and now drives as it should when it was new.

Currently showing circa 75,000 KMS (46,000 Miles) on speedometer with many previous maintenance records and invoices, old MOT's and various paperwork to relate to the current mileage.

New Michelin XWX period tyres fitted in 2024 and wheels fully powder coated and

professionally refurbished.

Professionally Ice Blasted undercarriage, wheel arches and engine bay in 2024.

Modern retro Blaupunkt Hamburg Radio with Bluetooth telephone and audio streaming fitted in July 2025.

Major service carried out with all new fluids, filters, hoses, new Mercedes original brake pads and discs all round, new brake pipes, new Mercedes battery, new subframe bushes, new brake hoses, new anti roll bar bushes and many more items all parts purchased from Mercedes where available and only quality branded parts used.

Air conditioning re-gassed and serviced in 2024 in good working order.
