1992 Volkswagen Golf GTI MKii

Larger and heavier than its predecessor, the MKii GTI lived in the shadow of the MKi. Volkswagen however, had doubled down on everything that made the MKi GTI an industry favourite, creating a refined driver focused sports hatchback that continued to be a solid all round performer.

The 1.8 litre fuel injected engine from the MKi made its way into a broader and more aggressive silhouette, producing the same 112bhp and 149 N⋅m of torque at 3,250 rpm. Whilst later models would be fitted with a 16v option, the 8v has remained sought after by collectors and left-field enthusiasts.

Praised by journalists for its smooth power delivery and low down torque, the 8v GTI was every bit the worthy successor -and much to the delight of the petrol head socialites, was available in a practical 5-door configuration.

A facelift in 1989 would be the start of the MKii coming into its own, as consumers saw the introduction of the now iconic big bumpers, integrated spoilers and front fog lights. Power steering made its way onto GTI’s built after 1990 which combined with the electric front windows and upgraded suspension of the 16v model, increased everyday usability and levelled the playing field, making the 8v models a more compelling proposition for those that favoured driving characteristics over outright power.

Presented in a classic Alpine White with factory fitted BBS 15” alloy wheels, power steering and rainbow cloth interior. It was purchased in Cannock in 1992, being one of the last examples left to roll off the forecourt alongside the newly released MKIII Golf. This GTI was treasured by its first owner Jayne - only used on short local journeys and never driven in the rain it featured in VW Magazine in 1999.

The Golf sold to a Doctor in Worthing who had over the years squirrelled away the most amazing collection of low mileage Volkswagen Golfs, Sciroccos and Corrados in the whole South of England. It was only following the Doctor's unfortunate passing that the size of this collection gradually came to light. Hero Motor Company were tasked by the family with the privilege of making sure these cars ended up in good hands.

Now with its third owner (a great collector and customer of Hero Motor Company) and still having covered only 6,900 miles it comes complete with a meticulous history including a full main-dealer stamped service book up to 2007 when it was taken off the road to preserve its condition and low mileage.

Having already been fitted with a new fuel pump, battery and reupholstered headlining, the remaining sales preparation will include full underbody future proofing and protection with clear cavity wax.

In addition, the GTI will undergo a full mechanical recommission with a major service, cambelt, pulley and water pump, all engine drive belts and fresh coolant.

A complete refresh of the braking system starting with new brake hoses and brake fluid, front and rear brake pads, discs and sensors and all brake calipers rebuilt with new seal kits.

Alongside new tyres and centre exhaust box, the sump, front subframe and rear beam will be lowered, prepared and painted to ensure onward longevity before reassembly.
