2013 MORGAN PLUS 4

Launched over seven decades ago as the first 4 wheel Morgan the 4/4 and later Plus Four is the purest expression of the four-wheeled Morgan.

The Third series Plus 4 introduced in late 2004, is powered by the Ford Duratec 20 DOHC I4 engine of two litres displacement. Power is 143 bhp (108 kW) at 6000 rpm, which is plenty in car with a dry weight of 950kg giving a 0-60mph time of just over 7 seconds. A Galvanised chassis fitted from 1995 onwards does not rust and post-1998 cars have stainless steel valances and front bulkheads. Also in 2004 the hood was replaced by the simpler and more convenient Easy-up hood and in 2012, a Mazda five-speed gearbox replaced the Ford unit.

The Car

First registered by the Morgan Motor Company on 07 March 2013 as the first owner the Plus 4 was specified with the more unusual Amazon Green body with Stone Leather interior and Green mohair hood and side screens. Chrome wire wheels, a mesh grill and the worthwhile addition of an Aluminium sump guard complete the package. The seats have the optional reclining/tilt feature and the wood dash looks superb. There is also a never used Tourneau cover, original owner’s manual, three sets of keys and a Morgan umbrella.

It’s History

The Morgan Motor Company as the first owner used this Plus 4 as a demonstrator completing 780 miles before it was sold by Richard Thorne Classic Cars in August 2013 to its second and current owner. On purchase the paintwork was protected by A-Glaze Active Paint Sealant and it’s certainly done a super job, the bodywork and Chrome present in immaculate order. Since buying the Plus 4, the owner has diligently maintained and MOT’d the car every year. With a documented replacement Mazda gearbox in August 2016 along with the fitment of a sump guard. The traditional Front Suspension kingpins and bushes were replaced in June 2021. The most recent work being a service and inspection carried out in April 2025. Inside, everything works as it should and the interior looks barely sat in. The Plus 4 looks like what it is, a superbly maintained well-loved immaculate one owner car that is ready for its next adventure. It has that lovely deep cleanliness of a car never used in the rain!!

On the Road

Fitted with the free revving 2.0-liter 4 cylinder OHC engine and quick shifting precise Mazda gearbox the Plus 4 feels very quick and nimble, while the evocative view down the lovely louvered bonnet is from another age. The Morgan Plus 4 offers a unique, exhilarating and characterful experience that makes you feel very connected to the road.

The cabin is a purposeful design, it is beautifully finished with comfortable leather, great attention to detail and perfectly crafted with Morgan’s lovely blend of craftsmanship and technology.

Morgan’s continuous evolution and improvement culture continued the ethos of improving the driving enjoyment and adventure, a timeless silhouette. It’s said that no two Morgan’s are the same and this one certainly ticks lots of boxes being at a high point in Plus 4 development, mechanically well sorted with the Duratec engine and Mazda gearbox, its suburb one owner impeccable maintenance history and a stunningly gorgeous colour combination.
