EXTERIOR

Draped in iconic New Formula Red, this NA2 NSX-R is the embodiment of Honda’s no-compromise approach to performance. Every sculpted surface and razor-edged line is engineered for a purpose with the car presenting in fabulous condition throughout.

The carbon-kevlar composite bonnet, the lighter glass, the aggressive stance – each element confirms the brief of weight saved and seconds gained.

The paintwork is vibrant and consistent all over the car, and although there are small isolated stone chips commensurate with age and mileage the car presents beautifully courtesy of careful long term ownership and discreet PPF installation.

INTERIOR

Pull the high-mounted door handle and step across the wide lightweight side sill, proudly displaying its factory NSX-R build plaque and unique production number; a subtle yet constant reminder that this is no ordinary NSX.

Inside the cabin is stripped-back and purposeful with the factory carbon kevlar Recaro bucket seats, upholstered in pristine black fabric and Alcantara, holding driver and passenger firmly in place with deep bolstering and total support. The extended steering column ensures the Momo wheel falls exactly where it needs to be whilst this particular example features key options in AC and a BOSE stereo.

Renowned for clear and simple ergonomics every switch and lever operates with crisp, mechanical certainty. Purposeful touches are everywhere – weight-saving materials, slim door cards and the unmistakable feel of a cockpit designed for driver engagement which embodies the Type R ethos; no frills, no compromise just the purest possible connection between car and driver.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

Beneath the glass rear deck lies the heart of the NSX-R: a blueprinted 3.2-litre DOHC V6 (Type C32B) engine hand-assembled with racing levels of precision and care. Every rotating component – pistons, rods, crankshaft – is meticulously weighed, matched and balanced to tolerances ten times tighter than a standard NSX engine resulting in blistering throttle response and an intoxicating free-revving character. Rated at a modest 290hp, with only a 1,200kg kerb weight, many experts believe the output to be a conservative figure and with a TUBI exhaust installed as the only deviation from factory the car sounds suitably sonorous. The factory exhaust is also supplied.

Paired with this is a purpose-built 6-speed manual gearbox featuring a revised shorter final drive for livelier acceleration and shift feel.

Since arrival into the UK in 2016 the car has been serviced on 9 occasions regardless of mileage to ensure mechanicals are spot on.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

Unique BBS wheels were specifiically created as a critical weight-saving contributor sanctioned by Honda to shave unsprung mass and sharpen handling. The decision was made to leave the wheels in original unrestored condition given paint matching is notoriously tricky alongside the stickers being NLA.

Meanwhile the braking sytem was completely overhauled in 2021, so naturally calipers, discs and pads show minimal wear with plenty of life remaining.

HISTORY FILE

All 140 NSX-R’s were built for the Japanese market only and this example would find it’s way to UK shores in 2016.

Having been owned by one private owner since arrival here the car has been used and cared for as good as any enthusiast could wish for; carefully driven and enjoyed for around 12k miles over the last 9 years with an exemplary service record. There are also receipts for a full Lanoguard treatment to the underside in both 2020 and again in 2024. The only outstanding mechanical item – a cambelt service – can be completed upon sale.

An R branded history file contains all original literature, service history from Japan and all invoicing since registration here in the UK as well as V5 registration.
