Driving this Mx5 is a kind of happiness that doesn’t need explaining as you feel it straight away! It’s not just about power but about lightness, as the car seems an extension of your shoulders and your grin! The gears - short, snappy, precise - click into place like it was designed by someone who REALLY loved gears.

Roof-down? That’s another grin-maker as it only takes 8 seconds to sort yourself out at the lights if there’s a spot of rain.

And then when you park up, you look back at it - small, simple, beautiful. A car that doesn’t shout but one that whistles a cheery little tune every day.
