Description
1983 Ferrari Mondial QV in rosso corsa over cream leather interior. Two owner very original car with comprehensive history, complete with extensive history including both handbooks, both sets of keys and both toolkits.
I have owned this car for nearly 4 years and completed about 9000 miles in it, including trips to Europe. Under my ownership it has been looked after by marque specialists Migliore cars in Bromsgrove. Recent full service including a cam belt change and MOT were carried out in April.
Apart from servicing, work carried out during my ownership includes:
New Bosch battery
New water pump
New clutch slave cylinder
New door seals
Complete set of new red HT leads
Couple of new coolant hoses
Original stereo repaired
Digital clock repaired
New fuel accumulator
Cigarette lighter updated to accept normal 12v accessories
New headlight and main beam bulbs (purely for safety reasons)
Drivers side window booster kit fitted
Starter relay fitted to improve starting voltage
The originality of this car has to be seen to be believed. It still has the original HR Owen dealer stickers, license plates and tax disc holder from when it was sold by them back in 1983. It even comes with the original sales order. Stacks of documentation going back decades including receipts for maintenance, old log books, MOTs and even the manual for the dealer fit Ferrari branded twin spindle Pioneer stereo.
The only non-original part of the car is the custom exhaust I had made by Ryan Edwards at Bicester Heritage. If you want to listen to it search YouTube for the JayEmm video when he drove the car. The original exhaust is included in the sale.
It will hit sixty in less than seven seconds and tops out at over 140. The later 3.2 is hardly any quicker and the T models which share their engine with the 348 are a big step up in terms of complication, electronics and running costs.
You don't need to drop the engine for clutch or cam belt changes on these, the forums are an excellent source of help and because the mechanical parts are shared with the 308/328 they are easily available. The running costs are pretty reasonable. Don't worry about it riding on Michelin TRXs either - they are available new but the car was supplied with a brand new set in 2022. The tax class is now Historic so that's another £295 per a year saving and it is of course ULEZ exempt.
The most sophisticated part of this car is probably the stereo - it has no power steering and a dog-leg gated gear shift so it's a thrilling, visceral experience to drive - don't be thinking it's a soft car - it's not. It gets loads of friendly attention, waves from other Ferrari drivers and regularly gets into the main display area at the Scramble at Bicester Heritage.
The car recently completed a 900 mile round trip to Le Mans Classic and behaved perfectly on French Autoroutes and sitting in traffic at more than 30 degrees heat.
