Great boxy retro JDM car. The definitive Japanese taxi shape although this particular car was a government car according to the paperwork, run by the Osaka Public Prosecutors Office. I like to imagine that maybe the car was used to transport Carlos Ghosn to his trial but unlikely.

Not a fast car at all but super smooth and a floaty drive. Excellent condition interior with optioned rear air purifier. DVD/HDD Nav system and ETC toll card reader still installed. Also fitted with R Spec aftermarket parking sensors.

Prior to my ownership I believe the Crown has had a new hybrid 36V battery fitted as shown in a YouTube video if you search for JDM Toyota Crown Mild Hybrid.

MOT till Sept 2026 – no advisories

Automatic – 6 Cylinder 2L with Mild Hybrid Assistance. The hybrid system is a very early start-stop system and apparently also provides some motion assistance when moving off. Easily deactivated by selecting overdrive off via the button on the cobra-head gear selector.

Oct 2023 – 108km purchased by me, serviced and undersealed

Nov 2024 – 116km serviced by Hoffmans Garage Henley – oil, air, sparkplugs

Dec 2024 – 116km new front discs and pads fitted by local garage

June 2025 – new Bosch battery fitted

Bad Points:

- A few minor door dings and stone chips

- Very small mark to drivers seat, not sure if it’s a burn (pictured)

- Some of the chrome door trim is beginning to peal away

- An interior metallic rattle which has been identified as possibly a bracket or brace in the headlining which needs reattaching. Only evident on bumpy roads (= most in the UK)

A really fun car to drive, not for someone in a rush but super comfortable and spacious for passengers. Something no doubt welcome at any JDM or other car show. The eagle-eyed will spot a Toyota Century in the background, the main reason this is up for sale. The Crown has been driven about a thousand miles in the last year and deserves to go to someone who can drive it more. Relatively rare in the UK, obviously not in Japan so as Sir Ranulph would say, find another. 😉
