Description

2009 Porsche 911 997.2 Carrera 2 Manual Coupe (6 previous owners 91,320 miles)
I spent years searching for this second gen manual and if you’re reading this, you might have been too. My requirements were a manual (obviously), a 3.6 engine for cheaper band K road tax (225g/km) and a sunroof for summer road trips.
I intended to keep this car for the long term so I took it to Friends Green Porsche last February before the major service was due and addressed every single issue at a cost of nearly £9,000. I can share the list of all the extensive works completed and photocopies of all the recent service history via email. Everything that was possibly required at this mileage has been addressed so there aren’t any nasty surprises for the next owner. This car also has a full service history which can also be emailed upon request.
Summary of work carried out on last major service
New Clutch
Renew 2x shock absorbers, 2x coil springs (Eibach sport), 2x top mounts, 2x top bearings, 2x bump stops, 2x dust bellows, 2x drop links.
Renew NS shock absorber (OS appears to have been replaced at some point and can be re-used), 2x coil springs (Eibach sport), 2x top mounts, 2x bump stops, 2x dust bellows, 2x drop links.
Renew 4x brake caliper pipes and 4x flexi hoses for Goodridge stainless braided units. Fill and bleed hydraulic brake fluid system.
Coolant Expansion Tank Package
Manual Transmission Oil Change
Cruise Control Retrofit Package
RSS Semi solid engine mounts (I still have the original if preferred but I told Friends Green Porsche I would return it).
Milltek centre back box delete pipe and quad exhaust tips. The original was only replaced around 20K miles ago for another OEM which is included in the sale for originality.
It also comes with the original 19” Turbo wheels which I replaced with 18” Carrera classics. Both sets are included within the list price.
All original parts including the clear side markers and the US spec ambers which I installed for a more unique retro look. I have headlight caps in arctic silver which I intended to install and complete my desired retro 993 look and I also purchased a leather centre console wrap which is also part of the sale. This would cover up some minor scratches on the center console and would perfectly finish the premium full extended leather cabin off.
The Bad
The rear right tail light has a small split in the centre, moisture can get in but this has only happened recently and still isn’t at the cloudy stage.
Some stone chips on the front bumper
There are some subtle scratches in the cabin but it is generally in very good condition for a nearly 16 year old car.
There is a small front right bumper scratch which mysteriously appeared after the last MOT.
Unlock button missing on the second key but still operates.
When cold, the gearbox has the common 1st to 2nd gear slight crunch but this disappears after 10 minutes once warm and shifting is then smooth for the entire day. This is a well documented issue on online forums. The transmission oil has been changed but this seems to be a common design fault and is probably only truly solvable with a Numeric shifter upgrade or similar.
Why am I considering selling?
A couple of reasons, I’m buying a flat without any allocated indoor parking and I cannot bear to park her in the street with all the normal boring cars. I could also do with a “sensible car” for work which could accompany a cheaper weekend car.
This is a reluctant sale so I am still in two minds about keeping it for the foreseeable future. We all have an idea of where the market is heading with these and this is one of the many reasons why I wanted one in the first place. They are looking better as they age and we are on the cusp of calling this a modern classic.
If I get enough serious interest I will drive the car back from the Isle Of Man to Enfield where I can take some viewings. This will add at least a few hundred miles onto the total which when I last checked was 91,310 miles.
Since I have spent a lot on maintenance in the past year I am not looking to lose a tremendous amount of money on it, but losing something is expected after a few thousand miles of joy with this lovely future classic.
If there are no takers, I think I’ll be quite happy driving it back and registering it in the Isle of Man properly. Yes before you ask, the national speed limit here is infinity.
