Description

Please forgive the length, I try to cover everything! Owned & enjoyed for over 4 years, but feeling like a change, I am listing my 1999 Griffith 500 in Sapphire Black metallic with blue hood on 43,300 miles. MoT until June 2026, no oil or coolant leaks. It has the classic interior colour combination of leather magnolia seats with dark blue trim, and has been constantly maintained, and improved by myself & previous owners. I have all 24 MoT certificates including the pre-digital ones and a comprehensive folder of receipts and invoices detailing all work, and also to accompany all services since 2004. The owners manual is present along with 17 stamped service cards. It has power steering, SP12 alloy wheels, and the rear silencer has been sleeved. The main cat is still in place so it passes emission tests and although louder than standard, is acceptable, IMHO. Stainless Steel water pipes & silicone hoses are fitted. Only 4 previous owners, the 2nd from 2004-15. The number plate can be included.
A previous owner informed me via PH that the dash was replaced c. 2010 (it has no cracks), the hood & carpets were likely replaced around this time (they are unlikely to be original!). There are Leven style aluminium control levers, buttons, handbrake handle and vent surrounds. The smooth bore induction hoses were purchased from ACT in 2015, and the Gaz Gold suspension and the SP12 alloy wheel 18/17 inch combination (in anthracite) in 2019. It has only done 5k miles since then. The stereo was replaced previously with an FM / Bluetooth head unit with front USB port; 4 speakers are fitted. It had a new starter and new seatbelts in 2021 prior to my purchase.
In my ownership, all large maintenance has been carried out at SSC in B. Hill (Andy Nicholas) who has checked the chassis at MoTs & service and the outriggers are still sound. The chassis had a full Dinitrol treatment with pressure injection at Henley Heritage in 2004, with further waxoyl treatment in 2010. I have continued this in both 2021 and this year, but the car has has only had summer use in my ownership anyway. Yes, not attractive, but it keeps corrosion away! I scraped some off the suspension arms shortly after purchase and the white powder coat was still present underneath. I added heat reflective material to the the most susceptible rails under the exhaust manifolds.
In my ownership, in 2021, I fitted locking wheel nuts, replaced the cracked main beam headlamps and fitted a better wiper spray system A sticking heater tap was replaced (can now turn heat off) and the car sealed against water ingress at SSC. I replaced the alarm / immobiliser with a new HPA Evo alarm & Meta T2 immobiliser system with a new siren from Abacus in 2022 after the original system failed, so the remote locking & alarm still synchronise.
In 2023, SSC repaired the glovebox catch (it still works), and all 4 rear driveshaft gaiters were replaced after one was perished, for the MoT. I replaced all 4 drop links with better items, and replaced the HT leads with angled heads, eliminating the spark plug extenders (available). I also wired in a starter solenoid and replaced the ignition switch to aid starting when hot. Andy at SSC replaced my PAS pipes with an upgraded kit and also fitted upgraded engine mounts. I did an extra oil and filter change myself in Sept. 2023, adding a spreader plate to the rear of the sump with longer bolts.
6 weeks after passing the MoT in May this year, the speedometer failed and was replaced with the correct new version from Caerbont with a digital odometer. It was programmed so that the mileage reading continued on accurately, taking over from the old one (see photos). Most recently, the car had a 6k mile service at SSC in August 2025, also removing & resealing the sump. He noted the worn rear brakes, so new discs and pads were fitted; I replaced the front pads myself. I also recently replaced the n/s door mirror glass because the silvering was coming away at the edges. The reverse lights failed earlier this year, I believe it is the switch, but they are only an MoT requirement for cars registered from 2009, so I have done without it.
The photos of all the invoices show those from previous owners separated by coloured cards, all kept in a large ring binder. There are only stamped cards for before 2004. The last 2 without coloured card show all the invoices and receipts from my ownership.
Sapphire metallic black is a Rolls Royce colour that has a deep blue sparkle to it in the sunshine. There is no peeling lacquer, nor any gel coat cracks, but there are several nicks & small scratches and 2 deep scratches. One is a long one on the rear 3/4, another on the front n/s wing (marked in red on the photo) and there's a paint flaw on the boot lid. This is is reflected in my asking price. Any inspection is welcome.
