1968 TRIUMPH TR5

Presented here is a superb example of Triumph’s most celebrated six-cylinder sports car: a factory-supplied UK Triumph TR5 PI, first registered in 1968. With only 1,161 right-hand drive home-market cars built, the TR5 is an exceptionally rare machine, and this example stands out for both its provenance and the quality of its rebuild.

The car was comprehensively rebuilt by TD Fitchett Ltd, the Shropshire-based Triumph authority who acquired much of the original factory parts stock when Triumph ceased production. Their involvement ensures this TR5 benefits from a level of authenticity and detail that very few cars on the market today can claim.

Finished in the deep Triumph Racing Green, the bodywork presents beautifully with excellent panel gaps, crisp chrome, and gleaming wire wheels. The interior is trimmed in black with white piping, complemented by a rich burr walnut dashboard, period Smiths instrumentation, and a Moto-Lita steering wheel. For improved comfort and support, the car is currently fitted with Mazda MX-5 style seats, though the original seats remain with the car and can be included in the sale — ensuring both practicality for driving and originality for collectors.

Under the bonnet, the 2.5-litre fuel-injected straight-six sits in an immaculately detailed engine bay, delivering both strong performance and the unique soundtrack that made the TR5 Britain’s first production car to be equipped with mechanical fuel injection. The car is fitted with overdrive, making it an ideal long-distance classic as well as a spirited driver’s car.
