The Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 EVO II
At the beginning of the 1990s, the so-called EVO II was introduced as an uncompromising homologation vehicle for the German Touring Car Championship (DTM). In order to fulfil the requirements of the Group A regulations, which stipulated that at least 500 road cars, on which the racing cars were based, had to be built, Mercedes-Benz produced exactly 502 road legal examples of the DTM legend. The EVO II was the final and most radical development stage of the 190E model series. Its aerodynamics were particularly striking: a large, adjustable rear wing, widened wings, a low slung front apron and adjustable suspension. All precisely developed in the wind tunnel to achieve maximum downforce and driving stability on the racetrack and on the road. The EVO II was powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 16 valves, which produced 235 hp in the road version. The racing versions, which were prepared by AMG, received technical modifications and were used with even higher performance. The 190E EVO II celebrated its greatest triumph in the 1992 DTM season, when Klaus Ludwig won the drivers' title at the wheel of an EVO II and Mercedes-Benz secured the manufacturers' trophy. This made the EVO II not only an icon of the 190 model series, but also a symbol of the close connection between series development and motorsport.
About the vehicle offered here:
The history of this EVO II began in May 1990 with its completion at the Mercedes-Benz plant. It then went to Italy, where it was approved by Mercedes-Benz Bergamo on 20 February 1991 with the final delivery inspection for the first owner. Who took delivery of the car for the first time on 3 April 1991. In the following years, this EVO II covered the majority of its mileage and was serviced at Mercedes-Benz as prescribed on the following dates: 20 March 1991 with 2,753 km, 23 December 1992 with 11,500 km, 11 March 1993 with 16,803 km, and 11 March 1993 with 16,803 km. March 1993 with 16,803 KM, on 03 February 1994 with 31,000 KM, on 01 March 1994 with 42,000 KM, on 20 March 1994 without record, on 07 April 1994 with 48,087 KM, on 26 September 1994 with 66,660 KM and on 15 November 1994 with 70,956 KM. In the following years, the frequency of use decreased significantly, which led to the sale after a final service in Italy on 14 March 2000.
The second owner of the EVO II, who came from France, kept the car for several years without driving it. At the beginning of 2005, he decided to sell the vehicle, which led it into the hands of the Bonhams auction house. They auctioned it off on 16 May of the same year with a mileage of 85,000 km at their 'Les Grandes Marques a Monaco' auction in the legendary Fairmont Hotel. The winning bidder was a Dutch collector who subsequently stored and admired the 190E alongside other historic vehicles in the Netherlands. In the following 20 years of ownership, the vehicle was hardly ever driven by the third owner and was always treated as a piece of art. It was finally purchased by us in 2025 with a mileage of 85,467 KM since it was first delivered in the early 1990s. Before the release of this EVO II, we carried out a major service in our workshop specialising in Mercedes-Benz to make the vehicle ready for use again after many years of standstill, resulting in a current mileage of 85,600 KM.
