1969 ALFA ROMEO GTV

How pretty is this Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV? It’s a 1969 example so it’s a Mark 1, and is finished in classic Alfa Rosso red. The interior is black leatherette with wood trim. The car is in superb condition, inside and out.

This lovely Italian classic was built in Milan, Italy and was originally sold in Johannesburg, South Africa before coming to the UK in 2014, where it has had two private owners. While still in South Africa, the car was subjected to a body and mechanical restoration. After arriving in the UK, the suspension was revived with new Koni dampers, Eibach springs and various bushes, and the Weber carburettors were rebuilt. In 2018, the Alfa was treated to a full respray, documented with photographs. Since then, it has had various works done as and when required to ensure that the car is in superb condition, inside and out. We believe that the mileage was zeroed during the restoration, so it has now covered just 16,900 miles.

There is a large folder of paperwork documenting the car’s history, including some fascinating correspondence and photos from a previous owner in South Africa. The receipt invoices show that no expense has been spared on running the car. Most recently, it has had a new exhaust, new starter motor, new fuel tank, new front brake discs and pads, new rear brake pads, plus the carburettors have been refurbished.

The GTV is powered by a sweet 1800cc four-cylinder engine that develops 120bhp, with the power going to the rear wheels via a five-speed gearbox. In such a light car, the engine ensures spritely performance and handling. This Alfa is a real joy to drive.
