1963 PORSCHE 356

Originally supplied on October 13, 1963, by Truman Motors in El Cajon, California, to Lawrence E. Finnin, this Porsche 356 B carries a history as captivating as its design.He owned the car until 2008, making it a remarkable time capsule. In 1968, just five years after purchase, the engine was removed for a minor oil leak repair that was never finished. The car was then parked in Finnin’s garage, where it sat untouched for 40 years.Its rediscovery came when Porsche specialist Skip Shirley of San Diego unearthed it, even cutting down a tree to free it. What he found was an untouched 356 with original panels, matching hood, trunk, and doors. It had never been in an accident and remained completely rust free.Shirley performed a meticulous restoration using only original, genuine Porsche, or NOS parts. The car was repainted in its factory Oslo Blue. Inside, the contrasting red interior remains pristine. The engine and transmission were rebuilt, with the motor upgraded to Super specs, increasing output from 60 to 75 BHP while keeping stock appearance.The result was award winning. At the 2011 Porsche Parade, it scored 298.1/300 points, winning the prestigious Gmund Achievement Award. In 2012, it swept First in Class, Division, and Overall Restoration, followed by Best of Show and People’s Choice at the La Jolla Concours d’Elegance.Presented today in concours condition, it retains its matching drivetrain, Certificate of Authenticity, and original owner’s manual signed by Hans Peter Porsche. Since restoration, only 528 miles have been added. In 2013, upon arrival at Canepa, it was mechanically sorted, aligned, and fitted with Pirelli P6 radials for road use. Later supplied to a UK collector, it was maintained but unused. Recently, marque specialists Maxted-Page carried out a full recommission, ensuring it drives better than new.This 1963 Porsche 356 B, a full matching numbers example in its original colours, offers collectors a rare chance to own one of the finest restored examples in existence.
