Overview
The enigmatically named BAC Mono is perhaps the closest one can get to driving a Formula One car without actually driving a Formula One car. And it's fully road legal. Existing in the same realm as cars like the Ariel Atom and the Radical RXC, the BAC Mono is a track-focussed road legal sports car with frankly ridiculous performance. It's basically a ballistic missile with an MOT.
BAC, or the Briggs Automotive Company to give it its full moniker, was formed back in 2009 by two Cheshire brothers who decided that they wanted to design and build a road vehicle that offers the most authentic and pure driving experience possible while implementing the very latest racing technology. Spoiler alert: they managed it and the Mono was the result.
Originally fitted with a 280bhp, 2.3-litre four-cylinder Cosworth engine mounted midships driving the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox and a limited-slip differential, the first Monos could hit 60mph from stationary in 2.8seconds thanks to a ludicrous power to weight ratio of well over 500bhp per tonne!
Constructed from lightweight carbon fibre with a tubular steel driver safety cell with roll-over protection the single seat Mono certainly looked the part of a thoroughbred racer but it walked the walk too with race-bred fully adjustable pushrod suspension and AP racing brakes, and it set the motoring world ablaze upon its release back in 2011.
2015 saw the Mono grow slightly in size and move to a larger, 2.5-litre Mountune Racing Duratec engine developing 305bhp, and that’s the version we have available here: a 2016 BAC Mono wrapped in full Gulf colours. Retaining its original white and black colour scheme underneath should you wish to revert back, the car has spent some time in Dubai and has been fully serviced by BAC flying doctors or Dragon Racing (running the Ferrari Challenge programme for the Middle East) with no expense spared. Since returning to the UK it has been looked after by the BAC factory.
Currently presenting in excellent condition throughout and with an incredibly low mileage of just 1,179 miles this Mono looks great and is reportedly in rude health. It comes complete with all invoices and an advisory-free MOT as well as two sets of wheels (one carbon, one magnesium) and three sets of additional tyres so it's ready to rock and roll. Offering an experience like almost nothing else, this is one not to be missed.

Summary
Perhaps when naming the Mono the letters got mixed up and it was actually supposed to be called the Moon because this is a rocket ship, make no mistake. It may not be for the faint of heart but if your goal is to go fast, very, very fast, then there's not a lot out there that can touch the BAC Mono in terms of sheer performance. Enjoy it as a weekend toy or go full send and track the thing at every opportunity, whatever you decide to do you're going to have the biggest grin on your face the entire time.
