Overview
When it comes to '90s poster cars the Porsche 911 993 is up there with the best of the best, seamlessly hanging alongside the likes of the Lamborghini Diablo and Ferrari's F40, especially in GT2 form with its huge rear wing and flared arches. It just belongs.
Bridging the gap between the old school air-cooled 911s and the more technologically advanced (or should we say technologically-aided?) Porkas, the 993 GT2 was the tip of the spear when it came to Stuttgart's fourth go around with its iconic model and the results were nothing short of sublime.
Featuring a 3.6-litre, twin turbo flat-six delivering a gargantuan 430bhp, all to the rear wheels, the 993 GT2 was a lightweight, road-going racer with a 0-60mph time of under four seconds and a top speed of just under 190mph. These kinds of figures may be more commonplace nowadays but you have to remember that this all happened in the 1990s, with the 993 being in production for five years between '93 and '98.
So good was the concept of the GT2 that Porsche continued to offer it as an available model across the next three generations of 911, testament to its enduring popularity, and indeed capabilities, but the 993 will always be the purest invocation of the marque. It's also the rarest, too, with just 57 road legal examples ever made.
And therein lies the problem. If finding one is particularly onerous, then being able to afford one is another problem entirely so what do you do if you want all of the characteristics of a 993 GT2 but without the prohibitively expensive price tag? Well, you build one yourself of course.
This particular 933 GT2 may be an evocation but by Jove it's a bloody good one! Beginning life as a 1990 left-hand drive 964 C4 3.6 with approximately 80,000 km (50,000 miles) on the clock, the vehicle was chosen for its improved stiffness over the C2 and a full no expense spared rebuild followed.
The bodywork was fabricated and finessed to replicate the look of the 993 GT2 and the 3.6-litre flat-six was fully and professionally rebuilt by Ninemeister to the tune of 350bhp, with all that power going to the rear wheels via a rebuilt Ultima G50 gearbox. The vendor states that all parts are genuine Porsche, including nuts, bolts, washers and clips with numerous receipts to back it all up.
The full spec list is detailed below but suffice to say this is as close to the real deal as you're likely to get. An absolutely stunning build with an attention to detail that almost belies belief – a sublime personal testimonial to a 993 GT2/RS Lightweight.

Summary
As far as classic cars are concerned, an evocation makes a lot of sense in our eyes. Especially when said facsimile is replicating a car so rare, and so expensive, that to even catch a glimpse of one in the wild, let alone own one, is hen's teeth territory and this 993 GT2/RS homage has been created with such care and attention as to make it a very tempting proposition indeed. It looks the part, goes like a scalded cat and because it's not a £1.2 million original you're going to be able to actually drive and enjoy the thing, which is kind of the whole point after all. A truly impressive build.
