Description
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Classic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2025 on Sunday the 9th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT.
The TVR Vixen, produced between 1967 and 1973, was the successor to the Grantura and marked TVR’s move towards more refined and capable lightweight sports cars powered by robust Ford engines
Introduced in 1968, the second generation of the Vixen, the S2, offered more than 75 improvements over its predecessor, the S1. The bodywork is bolted to the multi-tubular chassis rather than glued as was previously the case and externally the S2 could be distinguished by its longer doors, restyled bonnet, Cortina Mk2 rear lights, wraparound rear window, corner bumpers, aluminium window frames and the alloy wheels that came on virtually all S2 Vixens
Powered by a Ford Kent 1,599cc four-cylinder coupled to a 4-speed manual gearbox from the Cortina GT, the Vixen offered strong performance and nimble handling thanks to its lightweight fibreglass body and tubular chassis
This example was purchased by our vendors in 1981 for £300 from a family friend who was believed to be the first owner and the car has been restored over many years with extensive documentation, numerous receipts, correspondence and successive V5 registration documents retained on file
It presents in a vivid yellow with contrasting black detailing, a colour scheme chosen by the owners to give a clean, monochrome appearance, free from chrome embellishments, sits on period alloys, and features a rare heated rear screen in glass replacing the more commonly found polycarbonate screens
During the restoration, a complete engine-out rebuild was carried out alongside a full electrical rewire, with many components powder-coated in black to maintain the intended aesthetic
This well restored and carefully maintained Vixen recently attended its first classic car show and is now offered for sale due to our vendor’s limited mobility and a wish to see the car used and enjoyed, representing a great opportunity to acquire a distinctively presented example of TVR's much loved Vixen
