Service History

A well-presented and mechanically rejuvenated example of MG’s final-generation Midget, accompanied by a detailed history file and evidence of continual investment in both mechanical reliability and presentation.

This Midget 1500 has been the subject of regular maintenance and sympathetic improvement over many years. The history file includes invoices dating back to 2010, showing consistent care and the replacement of key mechanical components.

Earlier works include a cylinder-head rebuild in 2012 and a top-end overhaul in 2017, addressing all major gaskets, studs and hoses to ensure dependable running. Since then, the car has continued to benefit from careful attention and modern upgrades, ensuring strong performance and usability.

In 2025, the car underwent extensive mechanical refreshment, including a comprehensive ignition and fuel-system overhaul with a new coil, distributor components, contact set, condensers and a mechanical fuel pump. The carburettors were serviced with a replacement SU HS4 float-bowl chamber, new throttle and choke cables and linkages, and fresh return springs, resulting in smooth and responsive performance.

A full service was completed using Castrol Classic oils, along with new front-hub bearings and gaskets and a reproduction clutch slave cylinder. The engine was then professionally tuned and power-checked on a rolling-road dyno, confirming excellent performance and drivability. Lighting was improved with a halogen headlamp conversion, and the work was concluded with a professional underbody clean and protection treatment carried out at Classicwise.

The car presents cleanly and honestly, with bright paintwork, tidy chrome, and a well-kept interior showing light patina. Mechanically, it performs superbly – eager, smooth and well-balanced, with precise steering and a notably light clutch and gearbox action.
