Overview

One doesn't buy a car like the TVR Tuscan Speed Six with the head. Nope, it's purely a heart-based kind of deal but that doesn't mean it can't be an intelligent purchase. Far from it. TVR may once have been somewhat admonished for reliability issues but when a well-bedded in model from the Blackpool factory is getting close to 25 years old now, any inherent creases should have been well and truly ironed out, especially when the car in question has been fastidiously maintained and comprehensively serviced, as is the case here.

Still incredibly exciting and unapologetically provocative, the Tuscan Speed Six remains a highlight of TVR's impressive output, combining epic performance, outrageous design and attractive prices. Truly unique, the car was a huge hit upon release back in '99 with a large part of its prosperity being down to that gloriously sonorous 4.0-litre straight-six engine producing 360bhp, all being sent directly to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.

Free from traction control or ABS – features deemed by TVR to be detrimental when it comes to performance – the TVR Tuscan Speed Six is about as engaging as it gets, so if you're after a car that commands 100% of your attention at all times then look no further. 

This particular low mileage 2001 Tuscan Speed Six has been with its current owner for thirteen years and comes with excellent service history, including supporting invoices. The car has also benefited from an engine rebuild in the past, as well as recent mechanical work, including a clutch replacement and new shock absorbers.

Recently treated to a full machine polish and ceramic coating, as well as refurbished wheels, the car has wanted for nothing and presents well across the board with that crazy TVR paint looking the absolute business. The seller reports that everything that was deemed necessary has been sorted, everything works, and the car goes, stops and handles like it should.

Interior

• The vendor reports that the full leather interior is original

• In good condition overall with no evidence of any major damage

• There are a few scratches to the leather, most notably around the ignition and the leather around the rear window has started to shrink showing the fibreglass underneath

• The driver's leather seat also shows some cracking

• The vendor informs us that everything is working as expected

• Original Pioneer stereo (with CD changer in the boot)

• Carpets appear clean and dry but are slightly discoloured especially under the seats and in the footwells

• Door cards and headlining are in great shape

• Gear knob and handbrake gaiters have deteriorated slightly but consistent with age

• Boot space is clean and tidy 

Exterior

• The vendor reports that the paintwork was recently treated to a machine polish and ceramic coating and as such presents very well overall

• There are a few scratches and stone chips consistent with the age of the vehicle

• Some lacquer peeling at the front of the car

• No evidence of any major damage or corrosion

• Shut lines appear uniform except for the passenger door which sticks out slightly; according to Python Racing this requires shims to adjust and would be best done if the car is resprayed

• No issues with any of the glasswork to report

• The wheels present beautifully having been recently refurbished and ceramic coated however the vendor does report one small scuff caused by a pothole which could be easily remedied

• Tyres (Toyo Proxes Sport 2 all round) were new last year and reportedly have 6-7mm of tread remaining

• The underneath presents well with only some light surface rust to note but this was deemed to be negligible by Python Racing upon inspection

• There is a repaired stone chip on the passenger side of the windscreen which is visible but has not changed since it was repaired

Mechanical

• 360bhp, 4.0-litre, naturally aspirated straight-six engine

• The vendor informs us that Python Racing noted a slight misting of the oil lines and some perishing of the rubber

Summary

With devastating performance, looks that belong on the cat walk and a soundtrack to die for this TVR Tuscan Speed Six is an excellent example of one of the best cars TVR has ever made.
