Overview

Sitting in a special place within BMW’s performance lineage, the BMW M5 represents one of the most distinctive and characterful saloons the brand has ever produced. As part of the E60 generation, it is best known for its high-revving, naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V10 engine. Producing around 500bhp, it delivered its power in a dramatic, race-car-like fashion, pulling hard all the way to its 8,250rpm redline through the seven-speed SMG gearbox. It remains the only M5 ever built with a V10, which alone makes it one of the most celebrated and sought-after cars in the model’s history.

Visually, the 2008 M5 distinguished itself from the standard 5 Series with subtle but purposeful styling cues. These included quad exhaust pipes, flared arches, deeper bumpers, and signature M side vents. Inside, it delivers the typical BMW blend of understated luxury and driver-focused design, featuring sport seats, unique M instrumentation, and high-quality materials throughout. Despite its immense performance, it remains a practical four-door saloon with space for passengers and luggage.

Highly regarded as a modern classic, the M5 is from a brief era of naturally aspirated high-performance saloons, which offer pure, raw power that you just can’t replicate in a more modern world, especially in a family-sized saloon.

On paper, this 2007 E60 M5 ticks all the boxes; visually, it does the same. But once behind the wheel, you will realise just what it’s all about when you open up the V10 and hear that unmistakable soundtrack.

• A small ding is noted on the passenger door swage line just below the mirror

• All the windows are in excellent condition with no noticeable or excessive scratches

• The rear window seal has been replaced, which is a common part to crack and fail

• The factory sunroof operates correctly

• All of the badges, chrome wing trims, and kidney grilles are in excellent condition

• Factory 19-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels are in good order with just a couple of minor marks

• A matching set of Pirelli P Zero Rossi tyres are fitted, which have a good amount of tread remaining

Mechanical

• 5.0-litre V10, what more needs to be said

• The M5 produces approximately 500bhp and 384lb-ft of torque

• Capable of going from 0–60mph in 4.2 seconds

• Limited to 155mph

• The car fires up without hesitation and, as you can imagine, sounds fantastic

• The vendor tells us the car has had a secondary CAT delete, which improves the sound of the M5 without having a drone; he also said this doesn’t affect the MOT

• New injectors, rod bearings, spark plugs, thermostat, and transmission oils were replaced in 2021 @ 123,112 miles by Mr Vanos BMW Specialists

• Auxiliary belts and pulleys have been replaced within the past six months

• Seven-speed SMG automatic gearbox with paddle shift

• The SMG pump has been replaced in the last 6 months with a low miles part by a BMW specialist

• The car pulls extremely well through all the gears, and the change is smooth

• Drilled discs on each corner have minor signs of wear, but nothing excessive

• The M5 comes to a stop in a straight line with no issues reported

• New rear pads fitted within the last six months

Summary
