For many, the Classic Range Rover represents a time of class and sophistication in Britain. As such it brings back fantastic memories of the 80’s and 90’s for many Brits. At a time when the majority of Range Rover buyers were opting for the option of automatic gearboxes, this Chamonix White example was ordered from Stafford Land Rover Centre in January of 1987 by a Major who decided a short throw 5-speed manual with AWD transfer box and centre locking diff was the right choice for him. In hindsight in this day and age it’s a sensible purchase too, with manuals being more uncommon. Around 180 basic EFi manuals are said to be currently both registered and unregistered for UK roads. A simple 3.5 EFi model with fantastic interior and those classic windy windows, for many enthusiasts having the modern technology of fuel injection in a classic over a carb is a helpful advancement. The ideal crossover between off-road capability and luxury for its time. This 4x4 has had 5 previous owners, one of which kept it for 15 years and the last owner for 18 years in which time it was garaged.
Having formed part of a car collection it has seen little use in recent years and comes from a deceased estate. Although in 2024 it took an epic trip through Europe to the Mille Miglia proving that the lovely sounding Rover V8 is still a reliable euro trip cruiser and despite its age this classic is still capable of long road trips. It drives exactly how you expect a well-kept classic 4x4 to do so. The engine runs smooth when cold and warm, the gearbox changes as it should with high and low range both in good working order. The locking diff has also been tested and works as it should. So, you could still use this for the next time you go shooting or you could even head down to the South of France if you wanted to travel in class.
The car presents very well for its age thanks to extensive upkeep and regular maintenance over the years. The bodywork is well presented with very few marks or imperfections. The underside has been treated regularly to prevent any extensive rust, just one repair appears to have been carried out to a rear suspension mounting point. Within the past 5,000 miles mechanical maintenance has included new rear coil springs and shock absorbers, new front discs and pads, new radiator core, clutch master cylinder and refurbished wheels. It also appears to have had recent Goodyear all-terrain tyres, steering damper and brake lines. The interior is in excellent original condition with an original radio supplied to replace the aftermarket item should the new buyer choose to do so. After a good inspection this Range Rover would benefit from new rear discs and pads, as well as an engine sump gasket due to a minor oil leak.
Over the years an extensive service history has been kept for the car that includes old MOT’s, tax discs, parts and servicing receipts. The sale also includes two keys, factory tool kit and the original handbooks. We have additional images available upon request as well as a walk around video. Viewing by appointment only. We can assist with delivery and export if required.
