Overview
The Mk6 Golf GTI Edition 35 occupies a special place in the GTI lineage. Released in 2011 to celebrate 35 years of the GTI badge, it effectively bridged the gap between the standard GTI and the all-wheel-drive Golf R, offering front-wheel-drive purists a compelling middle ground with serious performance credentials.
What sets the Edition 35 apart is what lies behind that distinctive red-striped grille; unlike the standard Mk6 GTI's EA888 engine, the Edition 35 received the EA113 unit and it's essentially a detuned version of the Golf R's powerplant. With 235 bhp on tap, it delivers genuinely brisk performance that can dispatch the 0-62 mph sprint in the mid-sixes.
Beyond the mechanical upgrades, Edition 35 models received a host of visual and interior enhancements: unique 18-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers, distinctive badging, Edition 35 door sills, and special interior trim. These cosmetic flourishes marked this as something genuinely special in the GTI family tree.
Here we have a 2011 example finished in Tornado Red over black leather, presenting in excellent condition with remarkably complete documentation. With comprehensive service history from new, just two former keepers, and recent major service work including spark plugs and filters, this Edition 35 has much to commend it.
