Overview

The Range Rover is a car that is at home virtually anywhere in the world, from high-end country estates to urban streets and even historic 45-degree Chinese staircases (yes, really!). For those that want all the glitz, glamour and provenance that comes with a Range Rover but in a slightly more space-friendly (and therefore budget-friendly) package, the Range Rover Sport was introduced in 2005, and has remained a firm staple of the JLR line-up ever since.

This example is a post-facelift second-generation (L494) Sport SDV6 Autobiography first registered in 2019, and finished in the fantastic (though lesser-seen) shade of Portofino Blue Metallic. Wonderfully devoid of any divisive aftermarket ‘upgrades’ and, courtesy of its Autobiography spec, benefitting from a very high level of factory kit, this Sport has been in the care of the current owner for just over a year.

An ideal everyday car for those that want a little luxury in their life, but with the security of Range Rover’s proven all-terrain capabilities that give added confidence in poor weather or over rough terrain, the Range Rover Sport also delivers a more dynamic on-road driving experience than its full-fat sibling. For many, it’s an ideal combination.

Interior

• Well-appointed black leather interior in very good overall condition

• The outer lower bolster of the driver’s seat shows some light scuffing

• Some typical marks are visible on the rear ‘clam’ of the front seats

• Upgraded Meridian sound system which we can report from experience sounds great

• Electric heated and cooled seats, though the seller reports that the seat back of the front passenger seat does not heat

• Fridge between the front seats

• 360 degree cameras

• Panoramic glass sunroof

• There is some typical creasing and minor signs of wear to the door card leather

• There also appears to be some staining to the door card on the nearside front door

• The centre console has a scratch on the nearside upper edge

• In the rear, the boot is clean and tidy with no notable staining or wear

• A full-size spare wheel is present underneath the boot floor

• We note some corrosion around the boot strut mountings

• No reported faults or issues

Exterior

• Portofino Blue Metallic paintwork, which looks fantastic and is a subtle upgrade over the usual shades of grey and black more commonly seen on this era of Range Rover

• The paintwork itself looks good overall, but we can see some swirl marks and typical wear when in direct sunlight

• The usual smattering of stone chips is visible on the front end, along with some larger chips noted along the lower side skirts / arch areas

• Elsewhere, there are some light blemishes and imperfections (such as minor scratches) that would be considered commensurate for the vehicle’s age and mileage

• Both headlights have clouded slightly from moisture ingress

• The front tyres are Pirelli P Zero, the rears are Kapsen Practicalmax

• The wheels would benefit from a refurbishment to bring them back to their best

Mechanical

• 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 diesel engine, producing 306 bhp

• 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox

• All-wheel drive with Terrain Response system

• Height-adjustable air suspension

• The front brake discs and pads were replaced in August 2025

• No modifications from factory specification

• One garage which is not a JLR specialist flagged a potential turbo oil leak issue but the seller had it checked as part of a health check in Oct 2025; amongst other things this involved partially cleaning the engine and no leak was apparent after a number of days of testing

• No reported faults or issues

• Serviced exclusively by Land Rover main dealers from new until 2024 inclusive

Summary

Boasting an excellent factory specification (including a fridge and heated seats - ideal for those chilly winter mornings), this facelift L494-era Range Rover would make for an excellent daily driver that can be depended on in all weather conditions.
