2002 MERCEDES-BENZ SL

These are very rare with the factory fitted AMG bodystyling, which along with the AMG wheels make it look identicle to an SL55. It’s covered 78,000 miles and comes with a really strong service history – 13 services up to 77,000 miles in 2024. It also has 2 working keys.

This SL500 is from the early R230 generation with the naturally aspirated 5.0 V8 (M113 engine) and 5-speed automatic gearbox.

In my ownership I have modified the seals around the boot area, so this car DOES NOT LEAK water in! If you’re looking at this, you probably know they suffer with this. It has had a 4 wheel alignment and track in the last couple of months, and I have also fitted a bluetooth phone/audio/DAB unit, as the early bluetooth in this car does not communicate with modern bluetooth phones. The roof works perfectly. The ABC suspension WORKS PERFECTLY. The air-con works perfectly and is ice cold. The soft-close boot works perfectly. It has had both batteries replaced in the last 12 months. REG NUMBER DOES NOT COME WITH THE CAR (unless you want to buy it).

The things that don't work are: Keyless Go. I don't have the card for it, so it may work, and apparently you can get this programmed into the keys, but without the card it doesn't work. The cooling function on the seats doesn't work. I haven't investigated this, it's 23 years old, and is packed with old technology. Most of these almost nothing works on them!

Condition wise, this car is very presentable. It's not a show car, or one that's been kept in a hermetically sealed garage all it's life, but it has not been abused, it has been well maintained and used with care. I have put pictures in the ad of any little bits I have found that aren't perfect.

It comes with the odd creak or squeak here and there, but that is just part and parcel of owning a 20yr old plus convertible. There are no suspension clunks or steering noises that are out of the ordinary. I've driven quite a few of these, and this is definitely at the higher end of the quality scale for the age.
