The Silver Shadow marked a turning point for Rolls-Royce. When it arrived in the mid-1960s, it replaced the old body-on-chassis design that had carried through from the post-war years. Instead, it introduced monocoque construction a first for Rolls-Royce giving it a far more modern driving experience without losing that unmistakable wafting ride. The engineering was leagues ahead of its time: self-levelling suspension, disc brakes all round, and a level of refinement that made even the Bentley T of the same era feel slightly old-school by comparison.

By 1976, the Shadow I had been refined to near perfection. Rolls-Royce hadnt yet gone down the route of the more regulated Shadow II, which came later with bumpers and add-ons that some feel dulled the elegance. The Shadow I retained that graceful, slim-bumper look arguably the purer design and it still delivered the smooth, V8 power and creamy automatic gearbox that made these cars such a joy to drive.
