Overview
One of the usual characteristics of a Bentley is the discretion with which it delivers its performance, especially the first-generation Continental GT Supersport, which kicks out 621bhp from its twin-turbo W12 engine; enough to send it barrelling towards the horizon, despatching 0-60mph in just 3.7 seconds, on its way to a top speed of around 204mph.
But while most Continental GTs are subtle, often finished in rich, dark metallic colours with muted leather interiors, there’s the odd one that sticks its head above the parapet.
This one is the equivalent of the naughty kid at the back of the classroom. Its face doesn’t fit as far as convention is concerned, but it’s very individual and loveable, as well as being loud and very, very naughty. It is understood that Wolfgang Durheimer, then CEO of Bentley, approached Mulliner (the Bentley personalisation service, Bentley's equivalent of Aston's Q Division) with this specification for his personal car and Mulliner are thought to have built no more than five additional cars in this (or similar) colour schemes.
The seller reports that the specification was initially referred to as 'Durheimer' inside Bentley but this was later usurped by the nickname 'Bumblebee' before the cars went on sale. Our seller was lucky enough to be invited to Millbrook to drive one example and reports being hooked so when one became available to buy, he got straight in there.
Still, whether or not you're the CEO of Bentley, it’s certainly not a car for shrinking violets. While the Magnetic Grey paint job might be the very definition of a Bentley being discreet, the ‘Bumblebee’ highlights most certainly aren’t, with the wheels, bonnet scoops, Supersport decals and – most startlingly – the dashboard picked out in a vivid, solid yellow – a theme that continues to the door cards, quilted leather seats, gear shifters and steering wheel paddles.
You’ll either love it or hate it, and if it’s the former, then it’s a real gem – owned for almost a decade by the vendor and serviced annually by Bentley, it has covered just 27,000 miles since new and appears to be immaculate throughout. You certainly can’t help looking at it, that’s for sure!

Summary
If you love the idea of a Continental GT but have always found them a little too under-the-radar, then this car is the perfect tonic. Bold and purposeful, it’s hard to miss, yet at the same time as opulent and well-appointed as a Bentley should be.
The vendor reports that, to the best of their knowledge, only six Continental GT Supersports were ever made in this audacious Bumblebee colourway, so you’re unlikely to see another one up for sale soon – or, indeed, coming the other way.
Offered in collector-quality condition and with a very low mileage, this is a deeply unusual, rare and desirable Continental GT derivative, which is bound to appeal to Bentley aficionados. Go on, dare to be different!
